Miss: No rest for the wicked

Preston Sharper takes down your account of what happened.

"I'll look into the sending," the Tutor says. "In the meantime, you don't want to be late for classes." He dismisses you with a wave of his hand, at which the door opens behind you.

You and Fay hustle through your morning ablutions.

"Don't we look silly in red and gold," Fay says, smoothing your new uniform. She bends close to your ear. "Dragonfuckers, the both of us."

That finally gets a laugh out of you. Though you haven't seen Golondrina since you've switched Houses. She's a first-year, and their dormitory rooms are elsewhere.

"At least we don't have to spend time on breakfast," you say. Your stomach churns and your head throbs.

"Oh, nonsense, at least let's get tea," Fay says. "Can't just not show up. We're the drama darlings of House Leontes now."

Indeed, heads turn in the refectory as you and Fay come in. All you can manage is a mug of tea, while Fay pounces upon a large, sausage-shaped, cream-filled, sugar-dusted pastry. You look elsewhere as she bites, chews and sucks upon the obscene delicacy.

Golondrina gives you a wave and a smile as she leaves for her first class.

The tea finally starts doing its work and you and Fay head off to your classes.

Anticipating a time of blessed, blank-faced rest, you and Fay head back to your dormitory room.

"Hope Sharper's got it all cleaned," Fay says. "That sending left kind of a nasty stink."

But when you get back to your room, the Assistant Warden and one of the Prefects dragoon you into helping with the necessary banishing.

"I've been told you need practice banishing, Morgan," the Assistant Warden says. "Take up your wand, now."
