Carlos' despair

Detective Carlos Rivera was tired, having had to wake up early to return to town and talk to the chief about the final details of the cave operation that would take place in the afternoon. He didn’t like one bit to leave Susan and Lisa alone at the cabin, especially after the note he received the day before, threatening to harm his family if he went ahead with the investigation.

Despite his anger, that note instilled some fear in Carlos, but the detective figured the best way to prevent that from happening was catching the bastard as quickly as possible. ”It certainly beats having to stay put twiddling my thumbs.” He thought.

As he approached the cabin on his car, the first unusual thing he noticed was the door, which was wide open. An uneasy feeling coming over him, Carlos took his gun from his belt and jumped out of the car. He slowly stepped towards the cabin, pausing every once in a while to check for noises.

However, when he walked through the open door, his shoulders slumped and his blood ran cold at the sight before him. Chairs had fell off, the couches were out of position and a couple of vases were now smashed over the floor. A struggle had definitely taken place in the living room.

After he scanned the room for possible clues and found none, Carlos kicked one of the fallen chairs in anger. ”The son of a bitch did it!” He surmised in panic. ”Please, God, I beg of you, don’t let anything happen to my girls!”

Meanwhile, at an unknown location a man laughed at seeing Carlos’ despair through the video feed sent by the camera his associates hid inside the cabin. “Well, so much for not believing we’d do it, dear detective,” He whispered. “Now that we’ve got his girls, they’ll be useful to keep Rivera at bay, at least for the time being.”

Inside the dark room, the man powered off his computer and brought out a laptop from one of the desk’s drawers. “Time to step up my game again.” He cheerfully said to no one.
