Hajime Hinata is finally awake. What's the game plan, champ?
Let's get ourselves situated.
"The surgeries were a complete success." Yasuke spoke, relaxed in tone, even as he gave looks to both of the other people in the room aside from Hajime. A man in his thirties with dark purple hair, wearing a black suit with a matching purple tie, and a young woman around Hajime's age with long, lavender hair, a black ribbon, and purple eyes. Her attire was striking- a purple collared jacket over a zipped up, form fitting white blouse with a brown tie running down the center of her outfit, between her C cup breasts, and her black skirt was short enough to almost immediately get Hajime's attention.
Kyoko Kirigiri, to her credit, didn't seem to notice where his gaze had gone, or mind if she did. She merely kept her gloved hands at her sides, a completely unreadable blank expression across her face as she stared directly into him, utterly silent. The Ultimate Detective, true to her title, seemed to be looking right through him.
"I've already exchanged the details with the Steering Committee, who want to meet with you later, Hajime, but we'll go over the exact records regarding exactly what happened to you a few weeks ago at another time." Yasuke spoke, eyes flicking to the man in a suit. "Can I go now, or do you need me to spoonfeed you information?"
"That's fine." The man in the suit spoke, and Yasuke left in a hurry. "I apologize for the commotion earlier, Hajime. To be honest, the Steering Committee didn't exactly keep me in the loop on the Izuru Kamukura Project, so I had Kyoko keep tabs on everything. My name is Jin Kirigiri. I'm the headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy, though you probably already knew that."
That broke Hajime and Kyoko's unspoken staring match as Hajime turned his focus towards him. The headmaster. Kyoko Kirigiri's father. "Ah, sir! Sorry for my appearance. Sorry for not...recognizing you immediately. To be honest, a lot of my memories are a bit fuzzy." He muttered. It wasn't a lie. Ever since he'd woken up, he'd only been able to remember most of the things that had happened right before he'd signed up for the project, and the rest was gone. An unfortunate and temporary side-effect of the process, according to Yasuke, but he'd been told everything would come back eventually.
"It's fine. You've suffered quite a bit of neurological trauma from...the project. Hajime, I've been reading your file, and while I'm excited to see the talent you've been implanted with- well, we can discuss it after you're feeling better." Jin winced, before his smile returned. "Right now though, I think I need your help."
"Huh?" Hajime asked, as Kyoko leaned forward in her seat. "What would you want my help with?"
"Something rotten is going on at the school." Jin responded bluntly. "A few things, actually. You remember the **** of one of your classmates, don't you?" Hajime wordlessly nodded. "I fear that might be the tip of the Iceberg. There's rumors flitting around of plenty of things- a group called Ultimate Despair, corruption in high places, and- well, I need help getting Hope's Peak in order, it'd seem." The headmaster laughed, but it was mirthless, and he was wincing.
"But I'm a reserve course student. Shouldn't you be calling the authorities, or rallying the Ultimates?" Hajime asked, as Kyoko cleared her throat.
"It's likely that Hope's Peak would just sweep the issues under the rug again. They have plenty of pull with the government, and they'd be more than willing to either hide the issues we've been looking into, or simply pin the blame on my father." Kyoko responded, her glare burning its way into Hajime's mind. "As for the Ultimates, Ultimate Despair is a would-be terror organization that's seemingly comprised of Ultimates. If we were to simply announce that the school had been infiltrated by potential criminals, it'd ruin the ability of the Main Course students to trust each other, along with tipping off any actual members of the organization that we were onto them."
"Sorry." Hajime interjected, hand raised. "So to summarize. Natsumi's **** was covered up by people within Hope's Peak who you, the Headmaster, have no control over."
"Correct." Jin nodded. "Despite my title, most of what I do is manage the students."
"Students which, potentially, have members of a supposed-would be terror organization in their ranks, for some unknown reason." Hajime continued, beginning to squint as Jin nodded a second time. "That's right. You've essentially hit the nail on the head."
"And you want me to use my new talent to help you guys?" Hajime shook his head. "How? Why me?"
"For one, you're effectively invisible." Kyoko responded almost immediately, as though she'd been prepared for this exact moment (which indeed, she had.) "Your student record's been entirely erased by the Steering Committee, and you're effectively a non-entity among most of the students. Add that to your...physical reconstruction, and most people who recognize you will only think that you look familiar."
Non-entity.
Entirely erased.
Hajime took a deep breath, before sighing. "Okay, I see. So, I won't get that haircut, then."
"Two, your hidden talent will have more chances to manifest when you're at Hope's Peak proper." Jin added, nodding. "You'll be working with Kyoko proper, but we'll have you labeled as the Ultimate Counselor. While I can't enter you as a student without raising some eyebrows, you'll effectively be assistant-faculty, and you'll have access to everywhere in Academy grounds. The dorms, staff-only areas- you name it, your badge will get you anywhere. Your title will allow you to call upon any Ultimate, and interacting with them should give you more of a grasp on what your talent is. You'll be paid, of course."
All access? As a member of faculty? Hajime blinked. To go to Hope's Peak had seemed like a difficult dream. To work there was like heaven on earth.
"Finally, Kyoko likes you." Jin added on, and Kyoko coughed, her gaze finally flicking to her father for the first time in their entire meeting. Had her cheeks lightly flushed, or was that a trick of the light?
"...I'm sorry?" Hajime asked, as Jin laughed.
"He's correct. You were the only person to investigate Natsumi's **** when it happened. You quickly realized it was Sato, and acted. If Sato hadn't died right after your confrontation, it's likely that I would have been able to follow up on your suspicions." Kyoko spoke after a moment, her blank expression returning.
"Sato died?" Hajime asked, as Kyoko nodded slightly.
"I intend to look into it at some point. Regardless, you were the one person at Hope's Peak who fully cared to look into the truth of the matter at hand when you were confronted by it. While the faculty did their best to sweep it under the rug for the academy's appearances, and while her other classmates turned and looked the other way, you were willing to put yourself in danger to get answers." She smiled slightly.
"So yes, Hajime. I would suppose I do like you as a person."
"Thanks." Hajime replied, eyes wide. Outside of Chiaki and a few others, no one had ever really told him that- and one of those people was dead now. "I'll do it." He spoke, giving a nod.
"If you need time to think-"
"I'll do it." Hajime repeated. "I came to Hope's Peak because I love this school, and I'll do anything to protect it. How soon can I be released?"
"Tomorrow at the earliest." Jin replied. "They'll give you one final checkup, and we'll get going. The Ultimate Nurse...Mikan Tsumiki, will be joining Yasuke for your morning checkup tomorrow. We'll go ahead and get out of your hair now..." The headmaster rose from his chair, only to freeze.
"Not yet." Kyoko interjected, raising her right hand, glove held high. "Seeing as Hajime and I are going to be working closely together until the situation is solved, I have a few suggestions."
"Okay." Jin replied, nodding. "Lay them on me."
"Hajime's dorm. Instead of placing it with the rest of faculty's, would the second floor of the student dormitories be acceptable?" Kyoko asked. "It'll make it easier for me to reach him immediately, and you can use his status as Ultimate Counselor as an excuse to do it." Jin thought this over, then nodded. "Okay. What else?"
"Hajime's badge will give him all-access, right? I want one."
"Deal. Anything left?"
Kyoko thought it over, then turned to Hajime. "I'd like to know what your priorities are. Seeing as we have two cases before us, would you like to focus on looking for infiltrators among the students, or solving Sato's ****? If you'd prefer the former over the latter, that's fine- I know Sato killed someone close to you, and I'd understand if you want to focus on something else. There aren't any wrong answers here..."
Well, Hajime, what are you going to tell Kyoko?
