Chapter 5

Well, Hajime, what are you going to tell Kyoko?
Let's focus on the agents of Ultimate Despair!
"If it's alright with you, I'd like to focus on investigating Ultimate Despair first." Hajime replied, doing his best to elevate the hospital bed so that he could make eye-contact easier. "With a name like that, and what little you've told me, they seem like a more pressing issue." He nodded slowly, ignoring the light flickers of pain from his neck moving. "I'd like to learn more about them."
Perhaps it truly was because of the danger they presented, or perhaps it was because Hajime didn't want to think about the murders he'd failed to solve. Either way, Kyoko didn't react. She simply stared for a moment, then nodded, blinking once. "Very well." She responded. "I'll brief you tomorrow morning after the examinations are over. Then, we'll start your work as a counselor immediately. You'll be expected to deal with other Ultimates and their issues from time to time, so don't **** your free reign of the Academy grounds."
"Right." Hajime replied. "It's good to work with you."
"Likewise." She murmured, as Jin grinned. "We'll be back here around ten am tomorrow. The next two days are a weekend, so you'll have some time to settle in and begin your investigations before classes start. I'd like to thank you again, Hajime. I know that this...probably isn't what you expected to happen after the project, but we're thankful that you're chipping in."
The headmaster was thanking him. For a moment, Hajime felt like pinching himself, even as a voice in the back of his head muttered about how he should keep his guard up.
"You can't call your parents." Kyoko interjected, taking the wind out of his sails with a simple command. "You can't tell any friends of yours at Hope's Peak why you've been promoted to faculty member. You can't trust anyone outside this room, unless I clear them. As far as most of the world knows, Hajime Hinata's vanished off the face of the Earth- one in a tidal wave of missing person reports and suspected casualties, and you're going to have to keep secrets from the people who do know you- until we can tell they're not a member of Ultimate Despair."
"Right." Hajime muttered as his expression became irritated. "Thanks for that. Definitely needed it."
"If you're going to be helping save Hope's Peak from terrorists, you should know the risks." Kyoko smirked, as she finally walked towards the door. "We'll see you tomorrow. Don't worry about a uniform. I've already estimated your measurements." Why was her tone so calm when she'd said that?
The door closed behind her, as Jin Kirigiri smiled. "Don't worry. She's like that. I'm going to try to fill your parents in once everything dies down. Get some rest, and have a good rest of your afternoon." To the door he went, pausing.
"I still don't know the exact details of the Kamukura project, but I know a little bit about it. Once you get your memories back, you and I are going to have a lengthy discussion about it."
Hajime blinked, but the man left before he could ask more questions, the door slamming behind him. Was he..on Hajime's side, or not? That was the type of question he didn't want to ask.
Well, at least the Hospital food is nice. Should we skip to tomorrow morning via a power-nap?
