Chapter 12 by aassssssasssssssssss

During the test

OOF for Mǎ Fáng

During the test, everyone started in relatively equal positions, with each monster being fifth-stage in Qi Condensation at minimum, becoming stronger the deeper an applicant goes.

  • Following Kōngxīn sǐ, she was able to enter because she died before she was 30, and when she got the skin, it's like her chronological clock restarted –since a physical assessment can't be trusted for immortals. As she started, she quickly went around killing the monsters with her supernatural senses and weak ghosts sent out as scouts. When she found spiritual beasts, she killed them quickly, eating the souls, absorbing their lives, memories, and personalities into herself, which she easily compartmentalised. It became clear she was a rare talent destined to rise as people saw her go deeper and deeper, looking far off towards the titanic Nascent Soul beast towering above the mountains in the deepest region of the secret realm. With a brave vigour, she rushed towards the monster, stopping halfway to prepare a dharma tool as she constantly summoned phantom minions that antagonised the beast. The beast then ran to her, ignoring the swarming critters as its inky blackness chased, believing Kōngxīn sǐ was a random and weak Foundation Establishment brat way beyond her grasp on reality. However, when the beast stepped on her trap, thinking it could easily stop whatever a foundation Establishment fool made on the fly, it was painfully reminded of its hubris when it was sucked into her trading hall. Another perk of having split bodies is that the trading hall also had a lesser copy that was stuck in some other realm. Ordinarily, it would require Kōngxīn sǐ to prepare extensively or reach Deity Transformation to summon that structure out in the void, but thanks to Mǎ Fáng using his points to buy a summing tool with three uses, Kōngxīn sǐ was able to summon her trading hall copy. Inside the void, there is a weird energy that corrodes those inside of it, so Mǎ Fáng had to spend extra points upgrading it to be resistant, but because he did, Kōngxīn sǐ was able to twist her structure to increase the density of this void energy. Because of this, the Nascent Soul spiritual beast was dealt with quickly, since Dao Harmony or hire to last within the void for more than a moment. Kōngxīn sǐ then brought it out of her house, eating its soul and gaining a powerful spiritual beast phantom she could use for later. Afterwards, she tested it out a few times, finding out that stronger creatures she ate would have a sense of independence and might attack her, requiring her to use the phantom of the Nascent Soul spiritual beast sparingly as it racked up kills, using its mastery of the secret realm, and its twisting of this secret realm, to slaughter countless creatures before she decided she had enough and brought back 80 green tokens and one gold (the highest token tiers).
  • Following Bái Māo, she also punched above her weight, but by howling nearby beasts into submission when in the presence of their king, leading hordes of weaker beasts to swarm stronger spiritual beasts who can better resist her control. However, in the mess of bodies, it was far too easy for Bái Māo to claw her enemies to pieces, getting the 30 green tokens she needed.
  • Following Fěicuì Xīng, she used a Tai Ji Jian sword and acted like one of those mythical saintesses slaying demons, commanding countless spells and abilities innate to her physique. Sword styles came naturally to her, and her physique made it so that all demonic or dark energies absorbed by spiritual beasts were weak in her presence. Additionally, she had a cold aura that froze monsters who got too close, making it so she got stronger as she fought, entering a holy blood craze, only regaining her composure when Mǎ Fáng encountered her and the two clashed swords. They duelled a bit, wounding Mǎ Fáng, but our Earth is dominated by Western advances, causing knighthoods to also trickle through in Mǎ Fáng's world, giving his sword some weight to mix a French jousting form with a samurai downward slash, steeled and strengthened by his knight training classes. Fěicuì Xīng then apologised as she squirmed to check his wounds, getting a kiss on her forehead to reassure her as he told her he loved her before pushing her down a hole and running with her tokens. Fěicuì Xīng then sighed with a smile before getting into an angry persona and chasing after him, racking back up the tokens she lost, outclassing higher-realm spiritual beasts thanks to her and her physique's prowess.
  • Following Mǎ Fáng, he was able to get a lot of tokens, but no high-tier ones; his deck simply wasn't stacked without his maidens, so he decided to just keep fighting on, managing to get a few green tokens, but only after a lot of injuries. Then he saw Fěicuì Xīng and realised, "Oh shit, she needs my help." However, as he helped calm her mind, he then thought, "Oh shit, she's got a lot of green tokens and she's not even that injured." With little conscience, after he helped Fěicuì Xīng, he pushed her down a big pit, giving him enough time to run through monsters, getting stuck in the middle of a hoard which would've killed him if Fěicuì Xīng wasn't running towards him. Correspondingly, they tried to kill him and Fěicuì Xīng, but because of her danger, they focused on her and forgot about him, making it possible for Mǎ Fáng to escape while she cut down the hoard, handing in the tokens as the third in their group.

When it came time to give out judgment, people went as well as expected, with Mǎ Fáng's women getting the highest scores, becoming core disciples with established masters within the sect. As for Mǎ Fáng, his cultivation aptitude was shit, and although he made it to Foundation Establishment, they assumed it had something to do with the peerless women around him. What's more, his character didn't seem noble enough for their sect or make up for his lacking qualities. The sect judges then thought they should just turn him into a guard or servant, but because of his relationship to the three women, and because they wanted to court favour with the future bigwigs, they gave Mǎ Fáng an outer-disciple position.

What's next?
