Chapter 7 by zewesman zewesman

“Oh! Is that your ride?! That’s a sweet ride!” Sydney said as she ran up to the car.

Ride to Change Minds

“This is so fucking fire!” spouted Sydney as her auburn hair flowed in the wind as the convertible flew down the highway towards her home. She looked to her left and saw Jean’s fiery red hair flowing just as freely as hers. The two ladies enjoyed the feel of the wind through their hair and on their faces as their Ray-Ban sunglasses kept the glare of the sun out of their eyes. The two looked like badass bitches as they jammed out to some rock music coming from the radio.

“I know, right?” answered Jean. “I love when I get to drive this bad boy. Scott loves to drive it, so I can only get away with it when I go solo somewhere,” she explained to Sydney. “So these solo recruitment missions are my favorite!” she said with a little laugh.

“I totally get it,” replied Sydney as she let out a little laugh too. “We’ll be at my home soon,” she told her new friend.

“Yes, we will be. Are you excited? Nervous?” asked Jean, trying to get a read on her new ward without relying on her powers.

“Can’t you just mind scan me and find out?” asked Sydney, nonchalantly.

“Like I told you before, Sydney, I try not to use my powers on people without their consent. Entering someone’s mind can be very personal and very invasive,” the older woman told the younger one. “So, I do not know how you feel, currently, but I will always be willing to talk to you about anything. I will admit I can passively sense your general emotional feelings but I cannot pinpoint them unless I actively scan your mind. So I do make a good armchair psychiatrist!” joked the psychic redhead.

“I, right, you did mention that. Yeah, it’s hard to take in. Having a mutant power of being a chick with a dick being always active kinda makes you not realize that sometimes powers can be turned on or off,” admitted Sydney. Jean let out a little sigh as Sydney spoke.

“I know what you mean. You are not the only mutant with a power that is ‘always active’ as you say. Scott...well Scott’s eye beams are always on. He has to wear special glasses to be able to have his eyes open. And a new addition to our team, Rogue, poor girl can’t touch someone without draining their life-**** if they are a human while if it’s a mutant, she’ll do that and gain their powers temporarily. We hope to figure out how to help both of them and make it so they can see or touch without assistance,” confessed Jean, hoping her little speech would help calm the young girl.

“Really? Is this Rogue girl my age?” asked Sydney, hoping she could make a new friend. Jean lit up at how Sydney latched onto someone her age being there and not that they also had a strange power.

“Yes! She is!” she answered happily. “Her and Kitty have become good friends. Kitty’s control of her powers have improved dramatically once we figured out how they worked. We hope to do the same with you and Rogue. Kitty is also around your age. So you three should be able to become quick friends!” she told Sydney, who seemed to be rather happy about that news. Jean could feel the good psychic vibes coming off of her fellow redhead at the news of multiple girls that she could bond with.

“Can you tell me more? About Rogue and Kitty, I mean?” asked Sydney, curious about the two girls.

“Sure can! But we can do that on the drive to the mansion cause we just arrived at your house!” a peppy Jean said, quite convinced that Sydney was fully into joining her and the others at the school and begin her journey of mutanthood and possibly even becoming an X-Man.
Sydney was nervous as the two pulled into her driveway. Although she knew her parents loved her unconditionally, Sydney was still worried that maybe, just maybe, being a mutant was too much for them to handle. How far was their love of her really going to stretch? She had known friends who came out as gay or lesbian and their parents cut them off permanently. But there’s no way they’d do that with me, right? No, they wouldn’t. When I experimented a bit when I was younger they said they’d support me if I liked girls only. So they’ll support me if I’m a mutant. They’d have to, right? Right?!

Jean could feel the mix of emoticons that radiated off of her new friend. The poor girl was tearing herself apart in her mind with various situations on how this could go bad. With her mind this disheveled, Jean knew the girl would not be able to make her parents understand the situation. She could use a little pick-me-up I think. I’ll just send her some good vibes, that should calm her down. With her mind made up, Jean sent a wave of emotional calmness towards Sydney. While she did say that she would not read her mind or anything like that, reading emotions and sending emotions was different as far as Jean was concerned. A little skirting of her pledge to make sure she got what she needed without violating anyone’s trust.

“Ok, let’s go do this!” declared Sydney as a wave of confidence and comfort washed over her. They’ll accept me! They’re my parents and they love me! thought Sydney as she got out of Jean’s car. The two made their way up the driveway, past her parents’ cars and to her porch. Sydney stood there for a few seconds as she collected her thoughts and prepared for the emotional roller coaster she was about to go through. Sydney took a deep breath before she spoke. “Ok, I’m ready to go in,” decided Sydney as she unlocked the door and entered the home.

“Where are they?” asked Jean as the two entered the home.

“You told them we were coming, right?” asked Sydney. Jean nodded to confirm that is what she did. “Then they’re probably just hanging around,” Sydney figured. “MOM! DAD! I’M HOME WITH A GUEST!” yelled Sydney as she and Jean made their way to the living room.

“Young lady, what have I told you about yelling in the house?!” a stern voice came from the kitchen.

“Sorry, mommy! I just wanted you to know me and Jean were here!” Sydney replied in a happy tone.

“I’ll forgive you if you give your mother a kiss!” said the older woman as she entered the living room from the kitchen and beelined for her daughter.

“Mooooooooom! I’m 18 already! We don’t need to do this!” Sydney said as she saw her mom come in for the kiss.
