Chapter 8

“Mooooooooom! I’m 18 already! We don’t need to do this!” Sydney said as she saw her mom come in for the kiss.
Parental Consent
“So you are one of these...mutant people?” asked Sydney’s dad as he spoke to Jean. Jean, who had done this many times before, knew exactly what to say and do.
“I am, Mr. Watson. I am a telepath. I have control over the mind and have telekinesis, which allows me to move various objects with my mind. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them,” Jean told Sydney’s parents. The girl sat next to Jean, stiff as a board. She was beyond scared on how this entire situation would play out. Despite her bravado earlier, Sydney was still a scared girl who did not know what she would do if her parents disowned her.
“Oh yes, what about this school of yours...Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters? What’s it all about?” asked Sydney’s mom.
“Ah yes, Professor Xavier, who holds Ph.D.s in genetics, biophysics, and psychology, runs the school in his family manion on their family grounds. He has turned it into a safe haven for mutants to learn how to control their powers so they can better live with humans as well as protect some of the more...uniquely gifted mutants who may not be accepted by the general public,” Jean explained to the woman.
“Oh my! Like dangerous ones? I don’t want my sweetie to be hurt!” gasped the older woman.
“Oh no! Nothing like that!” Jean assured her. “By that I mean, not all mutations leave a mutant looking like a regular human. Sometimes, they have outward changes. Some are barely noticeable and the mutant can pass for human, others may have blue fur, or a tail, wings that look like an angel. There is nothing wrong with these people, but they have a hard time living among humans, so Professor Xavier keeps them safe. They are, of course, allowed to leave at any time, but most do not. They’d much rather stay within the safe grounds of the Xavier school,” finished Jean.
“Well that sounds totally reasonable to me, Debra,” said Sydney’s father.
“I agree, Grant, but I still worry,” replied Debra.
“Ah, well, it’s not like those bad mutants attack, right?” asked Grant.
“I will be completely honest with you: Yes, they do,” Jean said with a straight face. “However, that is mainly because they are after the X-Men, who are based out of the mansion. Plus, the mansion is actually well protected. We have a few mutants in our employ that have mutations that help them alert us to potential danger and a mutant or two who can create fantastical technology that allows us to protect ourselves and the students under our care. They are, first and foremost, the concern whenever something attacks the mansion. Your daughter will be safe with us, I can guarantee that.” Jean finished her mini-monologue with a large smile and a few mental waves of happiness and agreement. While she would not use her powers to **** people to do something against their wills, she thought there was no harm in sending them some emotional support.
“Hmm, I think we can trust them, honey. This girl seems like a great role model for my Synny Winny!” Debra said with a wholesome, motherly smile.
“I agree, dear. If she can teach our girl to be as half as diligent, well spoken, and commanding as she was just now, well our girl will be able to take over the world!” Grant said with a hearty dad laugh.
“Haha. Well, I assure you Mr. Watson, we do not teach our students about world domination. We teach them about world coexistence,” Jean told them.
“Oh of course, dear! You must ignore him, husbands can be quite silly when it comes to their children. You’ll learn that once you get married and have kids!” Debra told Jean.
“Well, I’m halfway there!” Jean said happily as she held up her hand with her wedding band on it, a giant smile radiating from her face.
“Oh congratulations, dear!” Debra happily said as she clasped her hands together.
“Your husband is a lucky man to lock down a beauty like you!” Grant said, which earned him a playful slap from his wife.
“Thank you, very much! Scott, my husband, is one of the teachers at the school as well as the field leader of the X-Men. He’s a good man that does what he can to protect both humans and mutants,” she informed her newest student’s parents.
“Ah. So he’s a strategist?” asked Grant.
“Yep. He always has at least a dozen plans for every operation. Different formations, team compositions, ways of engagement, that kinda of stuff. He’s a real savant at all that,” Jean informed them. “Yet he still finds time for us, planning dates, dinner, that sort of stuff,” she says with a genuine love of the man on her face.
“He sounds like a wonderful man, you should be proud to have found a man like that,” Debra said as she grabbed Jean’s hands and held them within hers and gave her a warm, motherly smile. “You should try to find a man like that, too, young lady!” Debra said as she turned to face her daughter. Sydney just stared at her mom and did not know what to say.
“Well, there are plenty of boys her age at the school,” Jean pointed out.
“Now, now! We don’t want my girl to be a maneater!” countered Grant.
“Of course, of course! We don’t let the students go wild,” Jean assured them.
“Now, I do have one more question. And it is an important one,” started Grant as his playful demeanor switched to a more serious tone.
“Oh, of course. Ask away. As I said before, I am glad to answer any questions you may have,” Jean said in an attempt to match his shift in demeanor.
“Do you know what my daughter’s mutation is? I do not want it to be one of those world threatening ones,” he said with a clear fatherly concern. Sydney began to panic, not sure what to say to her parents. Oh, my powers? I just grew a dick and can cum gallons into all their holes! Sydney thought to herself, her internal monologue’s sarcasm quite obvious. Her mind raced with multiple variations of her original thought, not knowing what to say or how to say it. She shifted in her seat, her mutation clearly reminding her what it was and how it should be used.
“We aren’t quite sure yet,” jumped in Jean, who could easily sense the emotions pouring from Sydney. “But that is why we want to take her to our school. There we can do some non-evasive experiments and tests to determine her mutation, teach her how to control it, and show her how to live side by side with humans,” finished Jean as she looked to Sydney. A wave of relief washed over the young girl as she mouthed a “thank you” to Jean who just responded with a smile before the woman turned back to Sydney’s parents.
“Hmm. I understand. But then, how did you know she was a mutant?” he asked.
“Oh, well we have a device that can determine when a mutant’s powers awaken. We try to get to said mutant early to both prevent any potential unintended harm as well as showing them there is a community ready and willing to help!” she informed them.
“Yes, yes, I can see the importance in having a...well I guess early warning system for mutant awakenings. I’ve seen some news reports about mutant powers awakening and causing a lot of problems, but they never say what happens to most of them,” Grant recalled.
“Ah yes...let’s just say there are some unsavory elements in mutantkind, humankind, and the government that want to use mutants for less than noble ideals. That’s another reason why the X-Men exist,” she informed them.
“Oh my! But mutants are still living beings! Nobody should treat another living being like that!” Debra said.
“I agree, that’s why I’m here with my request,” Jean told them.
“Well, it’s clear your school is the best place for her. We’ll allow the transfer,” Grant told Jean, who smiled at the news.
“Thank you very much! You won’t regret it!” she told the parents.
“I do have one last question: are there parental visitation days?” asked Debra, who was afraid to be away from her only daughter for so long.
“Oh, of course! We’ll get you the full event list at the school once Sydney is enrolled and settled in!” Jean told the parents.
“Now, if there is nothing else, perhaps Sydney and I can pack her a suitcase for her to move in?” asked Jean.
