Chapter 5 by Ozwalt Ozwalt

Hot flushes

“What exactly happened?” I asked the woman in the very pretty dress that really emphasized her figure. Much more than would have been necessary for a church service. My flushes became even stronger. I wondered whether it was a good idea to take this hot woman into the sacristy, which was actually only intended for things related to the service.

“They didn't really come out with it. They said they'd just had a bit of fun with the three of them. That wasn't enough for the police to investigate and, after all, all the girls are of legal age, so the parents have no recourse apart from their natural parental authority.”

I nodded silently and found myself barely able to take my eyes off her lips as she spoke. Her red lips, her chest moving as she breathed. I turned to the side to concentrate on listening. She took my silence as an invitation to continue speaking.

“I finally got it out of Kendra that they had done some kind of demon summoning and it had gone wrong somehow. I don't have any more details than that. Since all three are members of your community, it seemed best to talk to them?”

I caught their scent with my nose, which beguiled me and drove unchaste thoughts into my head. I had to end this conversation soon.

“Listen, uh Karen. Children - and young adults too, of course - are always getting up to mischief with seemingly occult acts. These sometimes lead to communal hallucinations or delusions. We also talked about this in priest training. Usually there's not much behind it, although if the memories aren't dealt with, they can develop into traumas that are real after all.”

She nodded gratefully because I answered scientifically and didn't start quoting Bible verses, as older priests often do when they're not up to something.

“I'd like to talk to the three of them. Without the parents, if possible. Can you organize that for me? I would prepare the seminar room, or better the youth room, we have comfortable armchairs there and it's more cozy.”

We exchanged numbers and Karen hurried off. I was glad that this temptation had passed me by and calmed myself down by picking up the Bible to read a few lines. Then I walked through my church again, where one of my little sheep was still snoring loudly. I instructed the verger to wake him up. In my experience, when I did this myself, the people concerned were extremely embarrassed, even if I placated them.
