It's Morgan's staring eyes that are the worst part. The light has gone out of them.

You bite back the retort that Mean Girl Fay lays on your tongue, take a deep breath, and let it out. "You're the same witch who taught me I can love," you tell the skinny broomstick girl. "You saved my soul."

"And you gave your soul away to Tess," Morgan says. "I hope she's worth it."

Princess Fay whispers her reassurances as Morgan searches your face.

Morgan clears her throat. "From what you tell me, she may need you as direly as, once, you needed me. Do you remember what you told me, Midsummer, in the moonlight?"

"No," you say. That memory is gone with Dreadful Love Fay. Who, you recall, is imprisoned in the bottle tucked into the pocket of your robe. That itches at you, the piece you had plucked from yourself, to free yourself of that **** need.

"I suppose I shall see you in class, then, or at House Service," Morgan says. Dints of tension appear on her forehead, her chin, the corners of her mouth.

"Yes," you breathe.

Morgan weeps, silently, the tears running down her long face in rivers to drip from her cheeks and chin.

You turn and leave. Tess is waiting outside. You go with her.
