Checking in with Riolu

It's morning about 7 am. I was in the cafeteria having some breakfast when Nurse Joy approached me.

"Trainer Lucas, the Pokémon you brought in last night is in stable condition," she said.

I nodded, "Is it possible for me to see her?" I asked.

"Of course. Please follow me," she said. Throwing away my garbage and followed Nurse Joy to Riolu's room. When I entered the room I saw the extent of Riolu's injuries. One of her eyes was bandaged up, a bandage was wrapped around her body to cover her back, and various bandages were used on her arms and legs, "It honestly could have been a lot worse if you hadn't found her when you did. We checked her wounds and no infection had set in. She is expected to make a full recovery."

"Good. That's very good," I said. I walked over to her bed. I gently held her hand, "Not sure if you can hear that little one, but you'll be fully healed in no time."

That was when I heard a quiet voice, "What?" the voice said and I saw Riolu waking up.

"She's waking up," I said to Nurse Joy. Nurse Joy and I were on opposite sides of the bed when Riolu finally opened her eye which wasn't covered.

"What? What's going on? How did I get here?" we heard the voice again.

"Is that Riolu?" I asked Nurse Joy.

"It is. It may be uncommon within the Riolu-Lucario line of Pokémon, but some do inherit the ability to speak with telepathy," Joy explained.

"Who are you two?" Riolu asked.

"I'm Lucas. This is Nurse Joy. The nurse asked me to look for you, and it was a good thing I did. You were injured pretty badly," I said.

"Is it possible for you to tell us who your former trainer was?" Joy asked Riolu.

Riolu shook her head no, "He always wore a mask. I never saw his face," she explained. As she thought about what had happened to her she started to cry, "Why? Why did this happen? Did I anger you, Master? Did I do something wrong?"

I moved my hand to her cheek whipping away some of her tears, "It's going to be okay, Riolu. He's no longer your trainer. I'll be your trainer, and you have done nothing wrong to deserve this treatment," I said gently and with a warm smile.

"Master," she said looking at me, "Why did this happen?"

"You don't need to worry about that right now," I said as I moved to block the vision from her paw that I was nearest to. As I did I placed the TM for Rest in her paw. When I did that, the TM was used up and she learned to Rest, "Right now, what is important for you to regain your strength. Riolu, Rest." With that command, Riolu started to fall back to sleep.

"Master, don't leave me," Riolu said quietly before falling asleep.

"Don't worry, little one. I'll be here when you wake up," I said giving her a little kiss on her forehead, "Sleep well, Lucy"

I exited the room with Nurse Joy, "At least I know that Lucy will fully recover," she said.

I looked through the window to Lucy, "It's the physical wounds I'm less concerned about. It is the emotional and mental wounds that I'm more concerned about and the ones that will take longer to heal if they ever heal at all," I said.

Joy nodded in agreement, "Still we haven't learned anything about the individual responsible for this," she said.

"We have learned one thing. Whoever this is, they don't trust anyone, even their own Pokémon, which means no bonds are formed between him and his Pokémon. This could mean he is giving those Pokémon away to be used by other trainers," I said.

"But why? Why would he do this?" Joy asked.

"I do not know, but I will learn more about him, perhaps even encounter him, as I continue my journey through the Kanto region, and when I do I will end to whatever plan he has," I said.

"I'll double-check Lucy's bandages and remove them if needed," Joy said reentering Lucy's room. I left to go back to my room, I remembered that I didn't talk to Amber yesterday due to everything that had happened. I pulled out my phone and called Amber and she picked up.

"Hey Amber," I said but there was no reply, "Hello? Amber you there?"

"WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL OR TEXT ME LAST NIGHT!!" Amber shouted at me through the phone nearly taking my hearing in that ear.

"Amber, I know you're mad at me but I have a good reason why I didn't text or call you last night," I said.

"You better not have forgotten while you had sex with another girl," she said.

"No, it's not that. I'm Gary for Arceus' sake," I said as I explained what happened yesterday evening and what happened to Lucy.

"I guess you did have a good reason why you didn't call or text me yesterday," Amber said having calmed down.

"I'm sorry I didn't contact you yesterday, but with everything that happened, it somewhat fell through the cracks. I didn't mean to forget to get you," I said.

"I know, and I'm sorry for jumping the gun like that," she said.

"It's alright. So, where are you?" I asked.

"I'm still in Pewter City. I did some training but now I'm ready to take on Brock and the gym," she said.

"Hit his ass for me," I said.

"I will, and I'll call you later when I've got my badge," she said.

"Talk to you soon," I said as we said our goodbyes.

-Two Hours Later-

I was next to Lucy's bed waiting for her to wake up. Eventually, Lucy woke up. She looked around the room and saw that I was still there.

"You're here?" she said.

"You asked me not to leave you, and I have not. Unlike your previous trainer, I have no plans on abandoning you," I said grabbing her hand. Lucy then leapt to me wrapping her arms around my neck and crying.

"Master, please don't leave me," she pleaded.

"Of course, I won't leave you. You're my Pokémon now and you are a part of my team. Together, we're going to become champions of the Kanto region. Right everyone?" I said turning to all of my Pokémon sitting next to me. They all cried out in agreement. Lucy looked at them and then back to me with a determined look.

"If that's what you want, I shall do everything I can to make it happen," Lucy said.

Our hero's team continues to grow with the addition of Lucy the Riolu and Lance the Nidoran (M), our hero is now ready to continue their adventures, but who was the one that did these terrible things to Lucy and what other dangers lay in wait for our heroes?
