Project Discussions

The twins got to their uncle’s cafe a bit early so they could spend some time with their uncle. As they walked in they saw that Alice was already there, but she was working. Zack had forgotten that she worked for her uncle and the nights that he was off. This would make things convenient for the two of them. Their uncle noticed them when they walked in.

“Hey kids. What can I get for you?” Malcolm asked.

“Just some hot coco and a few muffins. We are meeting our partners here for our biology projects, so we will be busy for most of the time.” Heather said.

“I get right on it. You two go on and sit down and I will bring that out to you.” Malcolm said.

“It looks like my partner is already here. Hey Alice. It completely slipped my mind that you work here too.” Zack said.

“Yeah. I work the opposite nights from you. It is a good job and plus, I love your uncle.” Alice said with a smile.

“He is a good guy. So, does Malcolm know that you need off for a little while?” Zack asked.

“Yeah. I told him that I was meeting my partner here for a class project. He said I could have thirty minutes to get everything straight.” Alice said.

“Good. Well, I will see you in a little bit then.” Zack said as he went to sit down with his sister.

As he sat down, Heather smiled at him. Zack didn’t know what that was about so he asked.

“What?” Zack asked.

“You seem to be getting along with her rather well.” Heather said.

“From what I can tell, she seems to be a good girl. I am not going to judge her until she does something to me that makes me reconsider that.” Zack said.

“I am trying to do the same with Victoria, but she just seems to think that I am no good. I hope things turn around soon or we might end up having words.” Heather said.

“Just do your part and she will see that you are not who she thinks you are. I am going to do the same with Alice and hopefully she will see that I am not worthless like her friends seem to think I am.” Zack said.

“I will do my Zack, I know this is a big part of my grade, so I am not going to slack off just because Victoria and I might not get along.” Heather said.

“That’s all I can ask.” Zack said and they sat there and continued to talk until Malcolm brought them their hot coco and muffins.

Right at 7 Victoria was walking into the cafe and saw that the twins and Alice were already there. She knew that Alice would already be there since she had to work that night. She was surprised to see that the twins were already there. This definitely didn’t jive with what she thought she knew about them. She was expecting them to be late.

“Don’t look so surprised to see us. Like I told you earlier today, we work for our grades.” Heather said to the blonde.

“Sorry, I just wasn’t expecting you to be here yet. I am going to get something to drink, then I will be ready to talk some more about our project.” Victoria said as she walked to the counter and made her order.

“I will talk to you in a little while. Remember, be nice.” Zack said as he got up and went to another table so that he and Alice could talk in private about their project.

Alice was already sitting at a table waiting for Zack. He sat down across from her and took out his notebook so that he could take notes and Alice did the same.

“So, have you thought about what you want to do for our project?” Alice asked.

“I have a few ideas, but I think ladies should go first. So, what do you have in mind?” Zack asked.

“I have a few ideas. We can do something about telling what all the parts of the body do and how they work together to make everything run correctly.” Alice said.

“That sounds interesting. What else do you have?” Zack said.

“Nothing as interesting as that. What do you have?” Alice asked.

“I have one that I think might be interesting. The others are just backups. I was thinking that we can do something on sex ed.” Zack said.

“Hmm. That could be interesting. I like that idea. I think we should go with that.” Alice said.

“Really? Most girls would usually turn down that idea.” Zack said.

“I guess I am not like most girls then. I think it could be informative for everyone in class. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that we can use our very own teacher if we have questions.” Alice said.

“That is true. I am finding a lot of things out about you today, Alice.” Zack said with a smile.

“Well, I am learning that you aren’t as bad as some of my friends think you are either.” Alice said, smiling back at him.

“I don’t know where everyone gets the idea that me and my group are all that bad. I guess it must have to do with having money or something. Our parents tried to make sure that we were well rounded so that we didn’t walk around like we were better than everyone else.” Zack said.

“I can see that now. My friend over there with your sister is going to be harder to convince though.” Alice said.

“Yeah, Heather really isn’t looking forward to working with Victoria. I told her to just do her part and everything would be okay.” Zack said.

“That will work. As long as she doesn’t slack off, she will win Victoria over eventually.” Alice said.

“I am glad to hear it. So, let’s talk about what we need to do to get started on this project.” Zack said and Alice nodded as they started to talk about their parts for the project and came up with a good list of things that they both had to do.

Victoria finally made her way back to the table that Heather was sitting at. She took a sip of her hot coco and then looked across the table to Heather and started talking about the project.

“So, I was wondering what you thought we should do for the project?” Victoria asked and Heather just shook her head because she knew that this was the blonde testing her.

“Well, the first thought that came to mind was the miracle of childbirth. My mom is an OBGYN and I am sure she will let us in to see an actual birth for our project. Plus, it is what I want to do when I finally get a job.” Heather said.

“Okay. That was better than I was expecting and to tell you the truth, it is much better than any of the ideas that I had, so I think we should go with that.” Victoria said.

“Never thought I would see the day that you agreed with me on something, but I am glad that you did.” Heather said.

“I am always up for things when they are a good idea and this one is. So, I think the first thing we need to do is see if your mom will let us watch a delivery. If she won’t, then maybe she will talk to us about it and we can get our information that way.” Victoria said.

“I will talk to my mom tonight and see what she says. I know that if nothing else, she will be willing to talk to us about everything.” Heather said.

“It is better than nothing and it should give us the information that we need. Seeing it in person though would be on a whole other level though.” Victoria said, seriously getting into this idea.

“Yeah it would. I know my mom. I am pretty sure I can talk her into this, but if not, I will pull out my secret weapon. Mom can never say no to Zack.” Heather said and Victoria couldn’t help but laugh at that.

“I can see that. So, I think we have a good start here. So, let me know what you find out from your mom and then we can do some more planning from there.” Victoria said.

“I will let you know tomorrow. Like I said, I don’t think it will be a problem, especially with my secret weapon.” Heather said.

“Good. I will see you tomorrow at school then. You know, this wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.” Victoria said.

“Yeah, I was dreading this all day.” Heather said as she chuckled and Victoria smiled at her as she got up and made her way out of the cafe.

Soon after that, Zack was back at the table sitting across from his sister giving her a look that she was used to when he wanted to know something.

“What is it Zack?” Heather asked.

“So, how did it go?” Zack asked.

“Everything is fine. She agreed to my idea right away. I think we might be alright. How about you?” Heather asked.

“Everything was good. Alice and I both put our idea out there and she seemed to like mine better, so we are going with that idea.” Zack said.

“Great. It looks like we might not be as bad off as we thought.” Heather said.

“I never thought I was bad off. It was just you with that problem. I might not know Alice well, but I knew she would give me the benefit of the doubt and she did.” Zack said.

“Oh rub it in my face big brother. I know I can get under people’s skin sometimes, but I’m not that bad.” Heather said.

“No, you’re not. Once people get to know you, they all normally like you. Just keep up what you did tonight and you will be fine with Victoria.” Zack said as they both got up and made their way out of the cafe so that they could get home and find out what they had to do to get their mother to help Heather with her project.
