"Blake," Rachel says snappily, "Are you even capable of going five fucking minutes without proving beyond a shadow of a doubt how much of a prick you are?"

Blake reacts like she just slapped him across the face. More precisely he reacts like he's got whiplash, like he doesn't know what happened or how things turned so quickly.

I really have to give him credit for being a right asshole. Nobody does it quite as well as he.

"I know," she goes on, advancing on him and pressing only the tip of her finger into his chest with really no **** at all but it's still enough to make him back up with her following right along after him, "That you can't imagine a world where the sole objective is to get into someone's pants, but the simple fact is that not all guys are as dull and boring as you are. People can have interests, Blake. Interests that interest them for the sake of being interesting. Interests that they want to share with other people."

Without looking she hooks a finger over at Eddie, "Eddie is a good guy. I've been around enough shitty ones to be able to pick the good ones out with a glance and even if I couldn't when he's standing next to you it would be obvious."

"Where did all this come from?" Blake asks defensively, almost a little meek.

She laughs, "What do you mean, Blake? It was there all along."

"I mean we were good, right?" he pleadingly asks, "You were just being so nice and now..."

Rachel laughs harder. She hams it up for a moment and I think she's almost about to double over before she stands up straight and rolls her eyes.

"What, because I was flirting with you? Because I wasn't tearing you down for five minutes? For that you thought I was on your side? That I thought you were a good guy?"

Rachel steps closer, caressing his chest and smiling sweetly at him. Like a switch flipping all of a sudden she's cooing and purring, cosying up to him and batting her eyes.

"Blake. Baby. You're a grown up now. You're a big boy in the big world and you really, you really absolutely, need to get a handle on when a girl is flirting with you to keep you busy and when she's actually interested. Think more with your big head than your little one."

Flabbergasted he stammers. She flips the switch back and goes cold again.

"I was treating you nice because my girl had to talk with that boy over there. Being nice to you was nothing more than a delay tactic, jumping on the proverbial grenade. But don't mistake kindness for affection and don't mistake my kindness for her with one for you."
