Chapter 7

So, which course of action will they choose?
Nova, as the leader of the group, decides that a burst of shots from an rifle is the best "argument"...
Nova, cautiously peering out from the bushes, thinks: "Damn! We're almost home... What kind of strange armed bastards are these?! Expecting anything good from them would be just stupid... It's obvious that we'll have to start a fight..."
An effort of will suppresses nervous tension and fear...
Quick aiming...
A burst of shots from an **** rifle sounds loudly among the ruins...
A tall and muscular guy drops a large machine gun from his hands. A couple dozen bullets pierce the flesh in the chest area, easily tearing the fabric of his homemade dirty leather armor. He... falls to the ground, making inarticulate sounds...
Agony...
He chokes on blood.
At that moment, a woman armed with two pistols quickly runs away to the side of one of the dilapidated walls of some ancient building.
She screams something and shoots while running (several bullets flew past Nova about a meter away).
She manages to dodge a crossbow shot. Stella missed.
A hunched man, armed with a large wooden club with metal spikes and a small sawed-off shotgun, screams something furiously and runs to attack.
He clearly noticed the direction the shots were coming from.
And he is fast enough...
Nova took cover behind some small bushes and has to spend a little time reloading her **** rifle. Luckily, she has spare clips.
However, the guy with the club notices the silhouette of Ember crawling on the ground.
Ember tries to quietly move away from the line of fire to hide.
She feels fear and confusion - the sudden start of the fight caught her off guard...
She did not even have time to pick up her weapon.
With a cruel grin and a furious gleam in his eyes, he swings his club and strikes without stopping running...
The sharp metal spikes located on the top of the large club pierce Ember's flesh...
A disgusting wound on the right side...
Profuse bleeding...
A scream of hellish pain...
The **** of the blow throws Ember's body a couple of meters to the side.
But that's not all - this ugly hunchbacked guy points the muzzle of his sawed-off shotgun at Ember, who is sobbing in pain and horror.
He is clearly aiming for her head.
In a split second, he will simply pull the trigger.
The result of this will be inevitable - the **** of the wounded girl rabbit-scout.
Suddenly, a crossbow bolt pierces the left eye socket of the grinning enemy.
Stella managed to react quickly to the danger...
New screams...
New shots from pistols...
A bullet inflicts a light superficial wound to Stella, tearing off a piece of skin from her right shoulder.
A large group of new armed opponents is coming from the enemy camp.
Ember, with all her strength enduring the pain and quietly whining, continues to crawl to the side (to hide among the ruins).
Seven new enemies quickly run forward, shooting as they run.
Shots from pistols, revolvers, hunting rifles and submachine guns...
Many bullets fly at an incredibly high speed in the direction of the three rabbit-scout girls.
Nova manages to lie down on the ground (the enemies can hardly see her from behind the bushes). Therefore, she manages to dodge the bullets.
Stella took cover behind the rusty skeleton of some ancient mechanism, which stands in the middle of the street.
While the enemies spend seconds reloading their weapons, a chance to do something arises...
Stella quickly runs to the other side of the street, distracting the enemies' attention to herself.
Shouts of ****.
The sounds of a weapon being reloaded.
Several bullets finally reach their target: Stella is wounded in the left arm (blood flows from two wounds - in the palm area and just above the elbow). She falls to the ground, hiding behind the debris of a large concrete pillar.
The enemies' attention is clearly distracted - they run towards Stella, preparing to finish her off.
Nova takes advantage of this.
An aimed burst from an **** rifle.
The distance is now small - it would be difficult to miss.
Two dozen bullets riddle the bodies of four armed enemies.
A disgusting sight: flesh torn to shreds, streams of blood, screams of agony and bodies falling into the mud.
Nova reloads his weapon again.
However, the three remaining enemies have clearly lost their enthusiasm...
Seeing the **** of their companions, they begin to retreat. At the same time, they shoot randomly, hoping to hit at least someone.
Stella shoots a crossbow and wounds one of the enemies in the arm, causing him to drop his weapon (a small revolver).
The enemies continue to flee, and soon only Nova, Stella, and Ember are left on the battlefield.
The situation is grave: Ember is seriously wounded (an extensive punctured wound in her right side, possibly broken ribs), Stella has wounds in her left arm and right shoulder.
Nova helps her companions and treats their wounds using the medicines found in the crashed train.
Of course, the pain from the wounds and the danger of the wounded getting worse will not go away. These measures will only allow them to get home.
So, after a while, Nova, Stella, and Ember return to a large underground settlement of mutant rabbits.
The Warren.
Nova tells the guards of the settlement about the shootout that took place. The guards, having taken the cargo from backpacks, take Stella and Ember to the hospital. The wounded need rest and long-term treatment.
Nova would also like to rest.
However, instead she goes straight to her boss.
Her boss is the second most influential and powerful person in the settlement.
Chief-researcher Zephyr.
And Nova's premonitions allow her to assume that the consequences of talking to him will be serious...
So, the group has successfully returned to the settlement. What does Nova learn from chief-researcher Zephyr?
