Chapter 26 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

What could happen to you next?

A changing of the guard mixes up discussion.

You begin to chew on your claws out of nervousness. You don't know what you are going to do with what you have discovered. It seems you are clearly being tasked with some great purpose, seeing as there is a world event that you are a part of and you have some connection to the two beings of your great tomb.

As you go to message the channel once more, you notice a new speaker in the chaos you momentarily left.

{Gold_Blade} I don't know if fun is the right word, more accurate for now would be eventful

{Grave_Keeper} What's that supposed to mean?

{Gold_Blade} It sounds like fun right now because we have been event starved. For the big guys, they are gunna want to avoid another big war or such.

{Moon_Chaser} What could possibly have happened here to get you all talking about war?

{Grave_Keeper} Aw man, its officially the night shift, huh Canis

{Moon_Chaser} How many times do I have to tell you that my relation to the moon does not, in fact, make me a wolf?

Looking at how this newcomer is being welcomed by them, you would guess this is the next person in charge of whatever "Final Throne" is currently. That means that you either have to start over from scratch, give up on help, or just wait for a later time.

Nevertheless, you decide you should at least introduce yourself.

{Netherus} Hello, how do you do?

{Moon_Chaser} Oh, we have a new guy. Does that mean it's your shift now? Nobody told me anything about a shift change.

{Final_Throne} No they aren't in charge yet, they just got here during my shift.

{Final_Throne} I am so sorry to ask you this, but would you mind letting me have a bit more time here? Something big has come up relating to the new guy and we haven't yet solved it all.

{Moon_Chaser} You think I care whether you are here or not? Dang, I guess I got some rough rumors out there, huh? You're cool, talk all you want. Just don't make my shift a living hell, Olivia and Silver do that plenty out here and I just need some time to relax in the moonlight.

{Final_Throne} Can do, I will keep everything in order.

{Moon_Chaser} Cool, I copied that just in case anyone else shows up, your ass on the line now, your magesty.

{Grave_Keeper} Yay! More time with big sis Lyth!

{Gold_Blade} I don't think I have encountered a single person who enjoys your nicknames of them

{Grave_Keeper} Shut your boot kissing mouth Gassy!

{Final_Throne} I can live with it, if only you weren't so shy we could actually learn your name or any true details about you personally. I swear, it's like being catfished. Katre, what did I say about stopping when I give the signal? Yes, I gave the signal Katre. For the love of Satan, just stop typing!

You chuckle to yourself, finding happiness in watching what feels like a genuine friendship among the bosses here. They all were laid-back enough that you can imagine yourself becoming a true member of this group someday, fate be willing.

Now, it was time to get back into it, with what seemed like some new faces joining.

{Frosted_Flayer} Huh, Lylanith is still here? does that mean Lunalius isn't showing or?

{Gold_Blade} Nah, just a crossover due to some neat stuff happening. Lunalius is around, he's just enjoying what we all definitely think is a well-earned break (no sarcasm I swear)

{Moon_Chaser} Stop saying my name so much will you lot? It makes a noise every time. Also, I would love to see you deal with those two running around your homes for almost the entire day, every other day.

{Lychester} Oh, I see some new names around. I guess I finally get some new people to talk to! Moony doesn't like talking much, so I hope you all are chatty!

{Final_Throne} Yes yes, well and good all of you, now back to the matter at hand. Netherus, you still here?

{Netherus} Present and accounted for.

{Frosted_Flayer} Great, Lylanith got a new boot licker, is it not too soon after Magyar?

{Moon_Chaser} Just because I am laying back a bit doesn't mean you can step out of line bub. Remember, the rules are pretty light on what it considered fair play in hostile action. You start it, and it's your problem, through and through.

{Lychester} Yeah! Be nice to others!

{Frosted_Flayer} How someone who has lived long enough to become a map-boss can have such a mindset will be a mystery to me until the day I die

{Wicked_Wurm} Just shut up you pompous icicle, I want to see what could have been important enough to keep Lylanith past her required time.

{Final_Throne} Thanks for the clear floor once more. Netherus, may I ask what it is those traits do at the moment?

{Netherus} For now at least they just serve as a form of attack spell. They are inconceivably powerful compared to my other abilities, but make me feel like I am being ripped apart slowly and painfully any time I use them.

{Frosted_Flayer} I take it all back, that was a pretty intense thing to say casually, new guy's fine by me.

{Grave_Keeper} Nice to know your opinion that nobody cares about, now let them talk.

{Final_Throne} That's... weird. I can't find any mention of either of them being harmed by their abilities before they both got their whole limit break gimmick that left them the only ones capable of defeating each other...

{Lychester} Wait, are we talking about the Legends of the Lizards?

{Gold_Blade} How the hell did you get that from what you could read here?

{Lychester} I have done way too much reading lately, and the stories of the first world event are by far some of the best. The tale of the Tablet Crusade is definitely the greatest one. Especially when the Daemons finally start showing up.

{Moon_Chaser} Stop acting like history is a fairy tale, some of us had to live through the carnage you treat like bedtime stories. Don't glorify war, because I still have to deal with the events that have occurred to this day.

You don't know quite how to react to the group of newcomers. The "Frosted Flayer" seemed irritable, and quick to irritate others. Lychester seemed to be the next newest after you, seeing as they also lacked a title. You could tell next to nothing about "Wicked Wurm" from their one message, it didn't say much about their personality at all.

Lastly there was "Moon Chaser", revealed to be Lunalius. You swear you have heard that name somewhere before, which made sense thinking about it. His name was made even more distinct than yours and Lylanith's, and you both seem to be Raid Bosses. You just can't quite put your finger on where you heard of someone with such a heavy moon theme-

Suddenly it clicks into place. A figure with a higher power than a Raid Boss, who would be almost aggressively laid back. There was one character you had heard of with a similar disposition, from adventurers who told stories about one of the hardest bosses in the game back before the third events end.

Lunalius the Moon Chaser, was the owner of his own pocket realm. He was called lazy by the adventurers, but they just didn't understand how he worked. You had pieced it together one life when you were left alone. He had immense power, but a slow rate of attack. However, the Gods loved to give incentive for monsters to interact with adventurers in ways that left them at a disadvantage, and Lunalius figured out how to **** this system.

It was all through one simple thing: Taunting. When a normal monster taunts, they gain some energy back and a slight buff. However, you could feel it was different for a boss. Immediately pulling up your great list of guides, you find a section that at last answers exactly what he had done to become who he was.

Boss Meter:
Your "Boss Meter" is a measure of how much power you have accumulated during a raid battle. As it reaches certain milestones, you gain access to some more powerful abilities as well as gain buffs to stats, or even the ability to change phases once you unlock them. You can also spend the meter in order to use some of your most powerful abilities.
You can increase your meter by taking damage, when adventurers use certain abilities, when you suffer a debuff... (The list goes on for a while)..., when you taunt, and upon loosing key minions or defenses.

It feels as if a great weight had finally been lifted off of you. At last, a great mystery had been solved. He was acting "lazy" by constantly yawning at them or such while avoiding actively fighting them. Then, once he had done it enough, he could start fighting them while nearly at full power from the start!

You look back to the messages, in sheer shock as you are reminded just the kinds of monsters you are now connected to.

Does the night ever get quiet?
