Crossing a large river takes time.

Vylorun spoke with the ferryman, explaining, that you have already given a significant portion of your supplies to the local guards as payment.

A gray-haired old man with an eye patch looks at you and your friend with hostility.

He quietly mutters and grumbles irritably: “Unholy sinners... Stinking unrighteous inhabitants of the damned wastelands... I'm so tired of you!”

The ferryman then walks away towards the strange mechanisms that probably provide the movement of this ferryboat.

This flat-bottomed ferryboat is quite large in size. Perhaps this vessel is somewhat similar to a small scow. Obviously, the function of this ferryboat is the regular transportation of groups of persons and goods across the river. This benefits the Chapel of Atonement settlement. Constant collection of fees from travelers, visits from traders, control over logistics in this area...

In addition to the old ferryman, you notice two guards on the ship. One of them is a slender young blond guy with a long smooth-bore hunting rifle in his hands. His modest grayish clothes (vest, jacket, trousers) have a traditional symbol for the settlement on the forearm - a triangle with a cross in the middle. On his neck you notice a small medallion in the form of a different symbol: a stylized eye inside a triangle (a similar image you saw on board this ferryboat).

The young guy notices your interested look. You smile warmly at him.

He... turns away embarrassedly, muttering something quietly.

The second guard is a stocky and muscular middle-aged man. He is probably around 40 years old. He is dressed in a grayish-black riveted leather jacket, leather pants and a grayish cloth shirt. His clothes have the same symbol: a triangle with a cross in the middle. And he also has a medallion on his neck: a stylized eye inside a triangle. This person is armed with several types of weapons: he has a large machete in his belt and a holster with a large pistol. In his hands you see a large crossbow. This man looks at you and Vylorun with contempt. And then he turns away.

You continue to look around.

You notice something interesting. In addition to the strange mechanisms that probably provide the movement of this ferryboat, on the forward sector of the side of the vessel there is something like a device for throwing harpoons.

There are discouraging thoughts in your head: “Judging by the number of weapons on the ferryboat's guards and the presence of a harpoon-throwing device, sailing on this river is not usually a relaxing event...”

Meanwhile, the ferry slowly leaves the pier.

You and Vylorun sit on one of the many benches that are located under the canopy in the center of the ferryboat. Obvious places for passengers.

There are few passengers here besides you and your friend.

On one of the benches sits a bronze-skinned guy, who is dressed in a dark blue shirt and dark gray jeans. He wears a small backpack on his back. On his feet are worn leather boots. On the belt is a holster, inside of which there is obviously some kind of weapon. Probably a pistol. His face with a small mustache and a black beard looks calm. Noticing your gaze, he smiles back slightly. A reaction that is clearly atypical for the residents of Chapel of Atonement. Therefore, it is easy for you to guess that he is a traveler and not a local resident.

The ferryboat continues to move slowly among the waters of the large river.
