They need to find a way past the outcasts

Eron points the way, and Lux once again takes the lead. Having her magic back gives her a sense of power that’s almost enough to make her throw caution to the wind, but she resists. She’s far from in the clear just yet.

As they come to the end of the corridor, Lux glimpses movement, and signals to Eron to stop. They squeeze themselves against the corridor wall to stay out of view while peering into the room.

The room looks like a common meeting-area, although it’s been heavily ransacked. A group of men and women are gathered near the centre, sorting through some of the debris. These don’t look like the bandits she saw before – they’re dressed in worn travelling cloaks. All have their hair closely cropped, like Eron’s, and Lux can see a dark mark on the forehead of each, like a faded tattoo.

“The outcasts?” she whispers to Eron. He nods in reply, trembling slightly.
