Just another average day in his average life. Keith sighs as he sits down to eat his breakfast, a bowl of soggy cereal and a cup of coffee. It’s not that he likes his cereal soggy, it’s just how life seems to be going lately. Of course the phone would ring while he was trying to eat, and of course it meant he had to work early, and of course the conversation would take long enough that his food would become unpalatable. It’s just…typical.

Keith graduated college a couple years ago, full of excitement to truly begin his adult life. Sure, job prospects were slim, but he had his whole life ahead! Just imagine the possibilities!

Ever since graduating college, though, reality has sunk in. Keith has found himself in a dead end job, living in a tiny apartment, and just getting by, day to day. It could be worse, of course it could be. But still, the color has gone out of the world. Go to work, come home, go to bed, get up, repeat. Keith finds himself running on autopilot.

Sighing again, he pushes the cereal bowl aside. It’s not even that life is BAD, it’s just…BORING! Keith shakes his head. Even dating hasn’t been great lately. Everyone just seems…flat. Like a cardboard cutout. Where’s the adventure? The excitement?

In the short time since graduating college, Keith feels like he’s fallen into a rut. All he wants now is something different. Something crazy. Anything!

Keith grimaces, a flash of pain behind his eyes. Great, a headache. Sure, why not. He stands, looking for some medicine. Strangely, everything seems blurry. Keith rubs his eyes, but it doesn’t seem to help. In fact, it makes it worse. The world seems to be beginning to glow around him, and the pain in his head is replaced by a persistent buzzing. Keith feels a rising panic as everything around him fades to a bright white glow, and he closes his eyes to shut out the light. Suddenly, there’s a sensation of falling, followed by a jolt that throws him from his feet.

Keith’s head clears, and he takes a deep breath. He keeps his eyes closed as the sudden vertigo passes as well. As he steadies himself on his knees, however, he’s stunned to hear a voice behind him!
