Chapter 46 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

Now the important question: Does all go well?

Well, somewhat?

I made sure to be slow and careful with my movements. I could barely control the amount of mana I was weaving, and I was within my own domain. I did not know what would happen if I lost control, and I did not want to risk finding out.

I slowly worked the pattern, shifting it so the intricate design slowly became more tightly packed within. The moment it was within the ring of vines and flesh, the Spirits moved forward and helped me hold it in place. From there, I focused on the top pattern, channeling it to be denser and eventually to start moving downwards.

As the dome around me gained more surface area from the top descending, it became yet harder to control. I could feel the Spirits putting everything they had into holding the shape in place, barely managing to do so. I felt my veins strain as I put as much effort as I could into forming a downward point toward the corpse resting upon the eye.

Ever so slowly, I managed to syphon the mana downwards, until the tip touched the great carcass. At that point, the power exploded forward, slipping out of my grasp as I had been forcing it that way before, the quick change of direction catching me off guard. The pattern continued itself upon the flesh of the corpse, and the eyes and mouth of the former bear glowed with the sickly green mana that had been **** into it.

The design started to shatter and crumble around me, folding in upon itself as it was all syphoned into the decaying form of my former adversary. The Spirits did their own form of stumbling as the barrier they had been holding back collapsed inwards. As I gazed forth at the scene before me, the HUD appeared.

Ritual Failure
The Ritual has failed, a failure effect shall now commence.

Ritual Creation Failure
Due to Ritual Failure, the creation of the Ritual did not succeed.
Do Not Be Discouraged, Try Another Strategy.

I did feel slightly annoyed by the failure of the ritual. It would have been very convenient to have it, as well as the rewards making it would grant. This annoyance was quickly dashed as the bear began to move. It was a jerking motion, akin to what it would look like if the bear had been **** and unable to breathe. Slowly, the pattern of mana engraved upon it seemed to sink in, the movements becoming more erratic. Until at last, the glow of the mana faded, and the beast ceased its movements.

Failure Effect Activated:
Corpse of "Scar" shall be consumed. All materials shall be recycled.

I was confused on how the corpse would be consumed yet the materials would be recycled, when the corpse moved again. It was not a full body movement this time, the wound I created when attacking it began to swell, before a fleshy tendril escaped from within. The stomach of the carcass swelled, before claws made of seemingly raw meat and bone fragments pierced out from within. I watched in amazement as a hoard of twisted flesh creatures escaped from the body, eating everything that was not already spent in their creation.

The pile of beings sloshed about, none of the individuals within looking remotely similar. One looked comparable to a porcupine with bone shards as its quills, another a collection of smooth tentacles. There was a total of ten of them, each one about the size of the average man in height, though much bigger in width.

They all moved about, using their own sometimes grotesque means of locomotion, one moving like a mixture of a slug and a snake, while another rolled on a series of bone spikes, like a slits man using blades with a summersault. There was a strangely captivating thing about these monstrosities, they all were unique and possessed their own skillsets. As I watched them leave the ritual zone and disappear into the wilderness that was my domain, I thought to myself 'This was the Failure Effect? I shudder to think what would have happened had I succeeded.'

With this business as well concluded, I motioned to one of the Spirits and activated Mark of Divine on its mask, having it replace the one that had been destroyed in my fight with Scar. The other four I left to maintain this altar and watch over the new form of life that now resided within my domain, a wonderful unintended side effect of my experiment.

With all of that addressed, I went back through the gateway before closing it and deciding to head back to town.

Does anything interrupt his return? Has some major event happened in his absence?
