After looking over my character sheet, getting another near miss with a heart attack due to my stats, I thought closer about some of the features. 'I gained an additional percent of pierce when I evolved, that is very useful. I can't believe I went straight to level 20 in my new race though. But then again, what's this "Milestone"?' The HUD popped up to answer, and I braced for a second or two before reading it, in case another argument occurred. It did not, so I was free to read the information.
An Evolutionary Milestone is a requirement a given race has before it is capable of evolution. A Vampire may be required to consume an amount of blood, or a Clockwork may be required to have a certain complexity of mechanism.
The Evolutionary Milestone for a Corruptor is:
Fully taint a creature's mana to be entirely your own, or fully taint a creature to maximum obedience.
The concept was interesting. The idea that I had to complete some task before evolving was an inconvenience due to my obscene xp growth rate, but it also implied that I would encounter far less high tier monsters as they too would have to deal with the assumedly harder Milestones. With that said, the Milestone I had to accomplish was made far easier by an ability I acquired from my evolution:
Corruption (active): You may implant your own mana into others, tainting them further to your whims. You may spend mana to replace a targets mana with your own, at a rate of 1 replaced for every 10 spent. This rate is raised by the amount of mana the target is missing as well as the willingness of the target. The more mana the target possesses that is yours, the more effect your abilities will have on them, positive or negative. This mana can be removed with purifying effects as well as by purging all of the target's mana.
This ability was absolutely and universally great. It allowed me to increase my buffing effects on allies, as well as weaken perspective enemies. Not to mention that is almost singlehandedly made my Milestone possible, which made sense as it was the ability I got for the racial evolution. This ability, paired with my rather high mana due to my excessive leveling, would be very useful.
I let out a large sigh, all of my notifications aside from the Apex Skills completed. I looked over to the corpse of the great bear, and thought of something. 'I could attempt to animate it; however I doubt that would give me a good impression with the town. In addition, it could fail due to the strength of the creature... I have an idea.' I channeled my core, bringing forth a temporary gate to my domain in the mouth of the cave. I then spent a longer amount of time than I would care to admit painstakingly moving the gigantic carcass into the gateway.
My domain was not very different from what I remembered. It was still a luscious, competitive environment that made me feel like home for reasons I could not explain. I stood, soaking in the wonderful feeling of belonging for a few more moments before I turned to the corpse. In order to pull of what I had thought of, I was going to need assistance. Focusing, I used the mana I had recharged in this time to spawn 5 20% efficient Spirits. For the minute, I still was not in a position to experiment and see an Abomination. Giving them quick orders, we shaped the area at the center of the domain into a clearing and began our work.
The Spirits were of course perfect workers, performing the tasks exactly as I imagined. Soon enough, the base of the project was complete. The grand clearing was carefully carved and seeded, so when grown a great circle of thorned vines formed. Next, we carefully extracted flesh and bone from the bear, placing that in the ring as well, forming itself into a comparable vine when grown. With that, we lastly formed a great altar at the center, formed into the shape of a vertically oriented eye. Once the last piece was in place, I felt a sudden boom of power from it.
Twisted green energy rose from the ground like steam. The power of the area flowed through this spot like a heart, making the flow of mana much less truly chaotic and more of a consistent current that dispersed as it went. At the very center, the iris of the eye glowed, the mana seeping into almost liquid form within. With this, my idea was ready.
The Spirits hauled the carcass of the Elder Bear into the center of the altar, before moving to equidistant points around the sigil upon the ground. I stepped forth, taking my place in front of the beast as I called upon the mana that flowed towards, away from, and around me. I harnessed and wove it, forming a complex pattern that began to trace itself in a dome around me, just within the boundary of the Spirits. I slowly completed the design, and once it seemed complete, the HUD appeared before me in a subtle way that still allowed me to focus on what I was doing.
Ritual Construction
The User has begun the creation of a Ritual. The success of the creation depends on the resources and performance of the Ritual. Current Ritual traits:
Title: ???

I smirked while reading it in my peripherals. If all went well, I could defeat two birds with one stone.
Now the important question: Does all go well?
