Chapter 32 by Trom1806 Trom1806

How exactly will you decide to act?

You decide to ask Franz for advice.

You walk with your companions through the vast and crowded streets of the port quarter of the elven city of Tior-Faen. Crowds of people who quickly move in different directions on their business are unusual for you. You bump into passers-by several times. Someone steps on your foot. You hear passers-by cursing at you.

But your companions help you keep going.

Half an hour later, having found more open space near one of the local inns, you stop to take a short rest.

You lean your back against the wooden wall of the building.

Sad thoughts arise in your head: "This is just a huge city. I've never seen anything like it. In this city I am like a miserable grain of sand... Will I be able to find at least one of my relatives? Will they recognize the fact that they are related to me? Will all sorts of terrible things happen to me on the streets of this city again? I've been able to avoid mortal dangers lately, but... what if my luck has run out?"

Your thoughts are probably reflected in your facial expression.

Oolok pats you on the shoulder and says, “You look like a girl about to cry! Cheer up, Jerome! We are already close to our goal!”

Franz rubs his side and winces from the pain in the wound.

Franz then says, “I agree. Dejection is inappropriate now. We need to act quickly and find your relatives, Jerome. I already have some ideas... Tell me what you know about your relatives who live on this elven island.”

You answer: “I don’t have much information... My mother’s stories about my elf father... The coat of arms on my amulet, which, according to my mother, was left over from my elf father. Information from the book that I found in the library of the city of Skelweerd - my elven relatives belong to the influential noble family Hyureeno on this island. I have read that they have extensive holdings in the west of this island. And one more thing: he has a thin elven dagger made of silver metal. This thing probably also belonged to my father.”

You show your amulet and your dagger.

Franz looks thoughtfully at the amulet and at you.

He looks at the heraldic emblem: a white deer on a bluish-grayish background and strange geometric shapes.

Then he says: “I have one assumption... If the assumption is confirmed, then it will be easier for us to achieve the goal...”

Before you can ask anything, Franz enters the inn. Through the open door you see him talking about something with the innkeeper.

A couple of minutes later Franz returns.

Oolok looks at him with an expression of irritation: “What the fuck?!” Chatting about our situation with the locals is dangerous! What will happen to us if this innkeeper tells the city guard about us or anyone else who wants to harm us?!”

Franz replies: “We have a chance to quickly get to a safe place. Follow me. We need to get to the gun store, which is located at the end of the neighboring street.”

You and the half-orc follow Franz.

In twenty minutes you reach your goal.

The building of the weapons store looks more solid and durable than the building of the inn, whose owner Franz spoke with.

You and your companions go inside the building. The premises inside look clean and beautiful: reliable oak furniture, wooden shelves with goods (a wide variety of edged weapons), the walls are decorated with elegant tapestries.

There are a lot of guards in the room: you see four guys (three half-elves and one human) in good steel armor.

Once you enter the store, these guards draw their weapons and move towards you.

The sight of their large steel maces-morgensterns strikes alarm into your mind.

You think in fear: “If now something doesn’t go according to plan, then these people will be angry with us... I hope that they will not attack us...”

Franz comes forward and talks to the guards.

You are surprised to realize that your friend speaks Elvish.

Before, you had no idea that he knew the Elvish language.

One of the guards leaves. A minute later he returns, accompanied by an elf who is dressed in a rich-looking silk camisole of a bluish hue.

Franz begins to say something to this elf. The elf listens and asks brief questions.

Your friend then tells you to come closer.

You timidly take steps forward.

Franz tells you: "Show this elf your amulet, which has a coat of arms on it."

You do it.

The elf carefully examines your amulet.

His gaze briefly scans your face.

The elf's gaze does not express anything. He probably has a fairly balanced character and has long learned to hide his emotions.

The elf then gives orders to the guards and says something to your friend.

Franz explains to you: “Now we need to go to one of the interior rooms in this weapons store. We will need to wait for some time."

The guards will take you to a spacious room on the first floor.

You and your companions go inside the room.

The furnishings inside the room are quite luxurious: sofas upholstered in green satin fabric, tables and chairs made of rare wood, beautiful tapestries on the walls, elegant metal lamps illuminating the room.

Important detail: there are no windows in this room.

You hear one of the guards locking the door from the outside.

You and your two companions were left alone in a locked room.

Oolok looks at Franz with an angry expression on his face and says in an enraged tone: “What the fuck?!” These cocksuckers locked us up! What if they try to kill us?! Because of your idiotic chatter, we are now in danger! You…"

Franz calmly replies: “You don’t understand the situation, half-orc...”

Oolok shouts indignantly, waving his fists: “Well, explain this fucking situation, you shit-eater!”

Franz, ignoring the insults, says: “I was a mercenary for many years. I traveled through the western part of the continent..."

You say: “Have you visited the elven cities and learned to speak the elven language?”

Franz continues to say: “Yes... I learned to speak the language of the elves. My knowledge of the Elvish language is modest - I can only communicate on fairly primitive topics... But this was enough in our case. I explained to the manager of this gun store that Jerome is a member of the Hyureeno family..."

The half-orc angrily asks: “Well, why the fuck did you do this stupid thing, you idiot?!”

Franz says: “When I was a traveling mercenary, in the course of my travels I sometimes saw a weapon that looked like the Elven Dagger of Jerome. This weapon had a similar manufacturer's weapon mark. And one more thing: I heard somewhere before about the elven family Hyureeno... A conversation with the innkeeper confirmed my assumptions: the elven noble family Hyureeno is one of the influential families on this island. They own mines and best weapon forges. This store is owned by the Hyureeno family. The manager of this gun store said that he would contact his superiors as quickly as possible. Within a couple of hours, three carriages with security will arrive at the store. The carriages will take us to the castle of the Hyureeno family, which is located in the west of the island. I think it's hard to imagine a safer place for Jerome..."

Oolok sniffles irritably: “I still don’t trust the inhabitants of this city... We must be prepared for all sorts of crap...”

Taking into account Franz's words, all you and your companions can do is wait.

What will happen next? Will carriages really come for you? Will you be seeing your elven relatives soon?
