Chapter 31 by Trom1806 Trom1806

You need to act quickly. You decide…

Urgently wake up your friends and collect your luggage.

You get out of bed. You begin to persistently wake up your companions. You push Oolok in the side.

The half-orc yawns protractedly and says irritably: “What the fuck! It’s very early now... Probably the dawn happened quite recently..."

You say loudly: “The ship will soon be moored at the pier. We need to quickly pack our things and prepare to enter the city..."

You will wake Franz. A wounded human has difficulty getting out of bed.

He looks at you blankly and asks: “Why such a rush, Jerome? We could sleep normally and wake up much later..."

Oolok echoes this thought: “Really! I would like to sleep some more..."

You look at your companions and you say in a voice in which slight hysterical notes slip through: “Please! We need to leave the ship as soon as the ship docks at the pier! We need to act quickly! I kindly ask you not to ask questions and just do what I say!”

The half-orc and human look at each other.

Oolok then says, “Is there some kind of threat on board the ship? Something like the incident that happened at Arlen’s Tavern?”

You nod.

The half-orc cursed dirtyly. After that, he began to collect your luggage. Franz began to do the same.

It took you and your companions about 15 minutes to collect your luggage.

After that, your group went up to the deck. There were a small number of sailors on the deck of the ship; several ladders were thrown from the side of the ship onto the pier.

Your gaze sees a huge seaport with many berths. Crowds of persons move along the port streets. There are representatives of many nations here: humans, dwarves, halflings, half-elves. But you notice much more elves on the streets than you are used to seeing. On the streets of the city of Skelweerd one could occasionally see one passing elf. There are almost as many elves here as humans. You also notice that the types of humans on the streets of this port city are quite diverse. In addition to the pale-skinned humans you're familiar with, you notice groups of bronze-skinned humans and even groups of black-skinned humans.

You are somewhat shocked by the size of this port.

As you and your friends walk down the ramp onto the pier, you look around in surprise.

The vast expanses of the port area of this large elven city open before your eyes...

You see stone towers of strange and graceful architecture that rise on the gray coastal cliffs near the entrance to the port bay. You see many piers that are similar to the pier you are on now. You see many ships in the harbor. Some of these ships have an extremely exotic appearance for you (probably these are ships of traders from the east of the continent). A large number of ship masts pointing into the sky makes you associate with a forest full of tall trees.

Sailors and port workers quickly run along the piers. They are busy loading and unloading. Some of them run past you and poke you on the shoulder. You wince slightly in pain. The wound on your left hand is making itself known. You feel the warm tropical breeze blowing on your skin...

Franz sees your surprise and says: “Free City of Tior-Faen... It's a big city... A very big city...”

You ask: "If this city is compared to the city of Skelweerd - what is the approximate size ratio?"

Franz replies with a grin: “The port quarter of the elven city of Tior-Faen is more than twice the size of the entire area of the human city of Skelweerd... In total, there are four quarters in the city of Tior-Faen: Sea Gate Quarter (this is the port quarter in which we are now; it located in the north of the city), the Quarter of Skilled Crafts (in the east of the city; large industries are located there: forges, workshops of carpenters, weavers, etc.), the Quarter of Amusements (in the west of the city; the most popular taverns, brothels, bazaars are located there).”

You ask: "You said there are four blocks in the city. What is the fourth?"

Franz sighs and says: “The fourth quarter is called the Quarter of Illustrious Nobility. The richest representatives of the elven merchant guilds live there. The headquarters of these guilds and the government buildings of the Free City of Tior-Faen are located there. You can enter this quarter only by obtaining special permission from the city guard.”

While you are talking, your group leaves the pier. You are surrounded by a dozen representatives of the city guard. You see that only the commander of this detachment is an elf. All other guards are either half-elves or humans. The guards will escort you to one of the buildings near the pier. In this building you see a long line in which humans, dwarves, and half-elves are standing. Many of them are holding bags with luggage. It is obvious to you that all these persons are guests in this elven city just like you. Your group is **** to go to the back of the line. There are a couple of dozen travelers in front of you.

You start to get nervous. Oolok also appears nervous and irritated.

You lean towards Franz's ear and whisper: "I'm afraid that some of the things in our luggage may cause problems during inspection... Is there a way to avoid this inspection and reduce our time communicating with the local city guard representatives."

Franz looks you in the eyes and nods understandingly. He steps aside and goes to the head of the city guard detachment that escorted your group. You see your friend quietly saying something to the elf commander of the squad. This elf and Franz then go into one of the interior rooms of this building. Ten minutes later your friend returns.

You see how he limps slightly and winces from painful sensations. You understand that Franz's wounds, which he received in the battle with the pirates, will take a long time to heal.

Franz comes up to you and quietly says: “I managed to persuade representatives of the local city guard. We don't have to stand in line. They won’t check our luggage.”

Oolok grins and says: “I think these “persuasions” have significantly reduced the amount of money you have. Isn’t that right, Franz?”

Franz smiles and replies: “You don’t need to talk about it out loud. We can go..."

You, Franz and Oolok leave this building. Your group walks through the crowded streets of the Sea Gate Quarter. You realize that it is easy for your small group to get lost in the crowd.

You think, “Perhaps this is good. Let our traces be lost among the crowd."

However, you now need to decide what to do next.

You need to decide where to stay in this huge city. And you need to understand how to act in your search for relatives.

You can come up with a solution yourself.

Or you can ask Oolok for advice.

Or you can trust Franz to make this decision.

How exactly will you decide to act?
