Chapter 23

So, what can you do to give yourself and peasants a chance of rescue?
Perhaps Priest Bernard can help you in some way? You decide to try to convince him. By any means…
You are trying to come up with at least some plan that will provide a chance for rescue.
Go to the basement and look for a secret underground passage? What if there is no secret underground passage? Or if this secret underground passage leads to some building in the village that has already been captured by enemies?
You need another option.
While you are thinking, you are looking around.
Prayers, cries and sobs of the peasants. This is all starting to irritate you greatly.
Your gaze rests on the priest Bernard, who, as before, kneels on the wooden floor, clutching his own head with palms.
You move closer to him.
You can hear him muttering madly: “I... I am... cursed... I am defiled... Sin! Sin! There is darkness everywhere... There is no salvation..."
You feel a surge of anger.
This priest has truly experienced adversity. Torment and grief that shook his sanity. You can guess that the imp, who tortured Priest Bernard, used the most sophisticated methods of **** and ****.
But now the threat of **** hangs over all residents of the village.
Now any individual suffering pales in comparison with the threat of mass **** of all village residents.
And this priest can only make mad mutterings and sobs.
With a frenzy that is usually unusual for you, you grab Priest Bernard by the throat, forcing him to rise from his knees.
You then give Bernard a series of slaps.
The look in his eyes becomes less crazy. Out of surprise, his attention concentrates on you.
The peasants who are nearby look at you with eyes full of surprise, which borders on shock.
You drag Priest Bernard to the corner of the room (where on a large wooden bench lies a priestly staff with a thick polished wooden shaft, decorated with a heavy iron crown, in the center of which a golden sun sets).
You slap Bernard again.
A trickle of blood appears to be flowing from his nostril.
You frantically scream in his ear: "Either you now bring at least some benefit to the survival of these humans, or I will break your stupid head with this staff! Do something useful, you crazy shit-eater!"
Having said these words, you **** Bernard to pick up the priestly staff. The same staff that you used to fight imp.
Bernard's shaking hands struggle to hold the staff. The look of his crazy eyes looks straight into your eyes.
He tries to mutter something: “Sin... Sin... I am defiled... There is no salvation for me... There is no redemption for me...”
You yell at him again, “There is redemption for you, asshole! Remember, there is always a chance for atonement for sins!”
You push Priest Bernard towards the exit of the room.
He holds a staff in his hands.
He mutters: "Redemption... Redemption... Redemption... I must..."
Bernard takes small steps towards the exit of the room. He goes to the room from which you and the militiamen were **** to retreat.
You see a pair of wolves running towards Bernard from the next room.
Probably, now the wolves will throw this madman to the floor and simply eat his body.
However, something else is happening...
Bernard raises his staff and pronounces a phrase in old orlanian dialect. You only manage to make out a few words - something like: “A lighthouse of truth in the darkness...”
Rays of silvery light emanate from the staff of Priest Bernard, which become more and more powerful.
Light fills the room.
Bernard goes into the next room where the enemies are.
You see how two wolves that tried to attack the priest fall to the floor and writhe in convulsions. The eyes of these predatory beasts rolled upward. You understand that the light emanating from the staff has a paralyzing effect on the wolves.
At the same time, you see that this light does not harm you or the peasants in any way.
You shout to the peasants: “Everyone, follow me! Priest Bernard will help us get to the inn! There are more militia forces there! It will be easier for us to defend there!”
The peasants and militiamens are coming after you.
And you follow the priest Bernard.
In the next room, the enemies have either fled or are lying in convulsions on the floor. The light from the staff affects satyrs in the same way as wolves.
Militiamens spears pierce immobilized enemies.
You think, “I wish we had killed that big nasty satyr who was armed the battle flail. This bastard managed to retreat."
You, along with a group of peasants and militiamens, leave the temple building.
Priest Bernard leads the way. The light from his staff becomes more powerful.
Satyrs and wolves on the streets near the temple scatter away from this light.
Your group moves towards the inn.
What will happen next?
