Chapter 22

What will happen next? Will you be able to withstand the onslaught of enemies?
The situation is getting worse every minute. You are trying to quickly come up with a solution.
In the interior rooms of the temple there is an extremely... difficult moral “atmosphere”.
The cries of wounded people who are trying to provide primitive medical care.
Screams of rage from enemies who are getting closer.
The grinding and clanking of iron.
The crack of breaking wood.
The crying of civilians, a group of whom hid in the interior of the temple.
You look around and you see three dozen civilians: children, women, decrepit old men.
Some of them are trying to maintain composure: a couple of old men and several women are bandaging the bleeding wounds of three militiamen who are lying on the wooden floor.
However, most civilians are gripped by fear and apathy. They just cry quietly and sit on the wooden floor or on benches. Some of these **** people are on their knees and praying.
Militiamen continue to defend the temple premises.
Again and again, wolves or satyrs try to run into doorway.
But so far, militiamens have been successful in striking down enemies with long spears, taking advantage of an advantageous defensive position near the doorway.
New corpses of wolves and satyrs...
The wooden floor becomes increasingly saturated with blood.
Puddles of dark red blood spread further and further across the wooden floor.
You take a step back: a trickle of blood from a disgusting puncture wound on the throat of one of the dead satyrs, whose body is lying near the door, has almost flowed to the sole of your boot...
Your thoughts are, to put it mildly...disappointing: “Militiamens are too few. And there are too many enemies. It's only a matter of time... before we're all killed here. We need to come up with something urgently!”
Really.
Many of the militiamens are wounded. A significant number of militiamens have already died.
Probably, now the temple building is defended by only a dozen peasant militiamens...
Are you and all these humans really in for a painful ****?
Or can you still come up with at least something useful for salvation? Any idea that will give you at least a chance to survive?
You continue to think feverishly while still shooting at enemies with your combat bow through the doorway. Your arrows hit the bodies of satyrs. You hear the cries of pain of your enemies. You hope that your archery will slow down your enemies' advance at least a little.
Among the civilians you notice someone you know...
Person in an old and dirty worn grayish robe.
This person is on her knees, holding her head in her hands and muttering something unintelligible.
He is a portly, middle-aged man with a tonsure on his head, a flabby red face and very thick eyebrows.
Priest Bernard.
The one who was a prisoner in the temple basement.
The one you saved from the **** and bullying of the vile imp.
You move closer to Bernard.
You are hear that he is still muttering all sorts of nonsense.
The look in his eyes and his exhausted pale face still express brokenness and madness.
You think with frustration: “Is it possible to get at least some help from this madman in the current critically dangerous situation? Unlikely..."
You look around.
In the corner of the room you see a large wooden bench. There is a staff on the bench. The thick polished wooden shaft is decorated with a heavy iron crown, in the center of which a golden sun sets. This is the same priestly staff you used when you fought the imp and the satyr, who used an unholy amulet to disguise himself as Priest Bernard.
You think, "This staff was an effective melee weapon for me. But... now this weapon will not be of much use... There are too many enemies... We need to somehow leave the temple building. But how?! Enemies have filled the village... On the street we will simply be torn to pieces... Unless there is a factor distracting the enemies. Or another option: I remember that... the coward whom I killed... he said that we had to go to the basement to escape... Is there really a secret passage in the basement? But where can this passage lead?"
Your thoughts are interrupted by an extremely unpleasant event.
Loud crack of breaking wood!
Satyrs are climbing through one of the windows!
They broke the barricade!
At the same time, satyrs are attacking from the adjacent temple room, from which you were recently **** to retreat. Fortunately, the militiamen, armed with spears, kill a pair of satyrs who ran out of the next room.
However, the militiamen do not have time to prevent the attack of those enemies who climb inside the room through the window.
A large satyr jumps through the window into the room.
In his hands is a wooden club with spikes.
His vile face contorts in a grimace of combat rage.
It makes a quick, circular strike at those within its reach.
His blunt weapon severely wounds one of the civilians. The young woman falls to the floor. Her neck is covered in blood. The flesh is torn by the spikes that were on the satyr's club.
A disgusting sight.
More and more blood.
The woman is clearly dead.
The screaming and crying intensify sharply.
Peasants are close to panic.
You quickly draw your bow string. You place an arrow on the bow string.
Shot!
The arrow flies straight into the open mouth of the vile satyr.
The tip of an iron arrowhead pierces the satyr's throat. The arrowhead also pierces his cervical vertebrae.
The satyr's body falls down.
His head hits the windowsill.
You see another satyr trying to climb into the window.
Shot!
The satyr falls, letting out a squeal of pain.
Thanks to the fact that your arrow plunged into his stomach, this bastard does not have time to climb inside the temple building.
You shout to the peasants: “Quickly barricade this window! Use everything you can find nearby: tables, benches, cabinets! Quicker! Quicker! Quicker!"
The peasants carry out your order.
Several large benches block the window. This passage is barricaded again. But how long will this barricade keep your enemies out?
The need to come up with a way to escape is becoming increasingly critical.
The situation is deteriorating rapidly.
So, what can you do to give yourself and peasants a chance of rescue?
