Chapter 23 by Trom1806 Trom1806

So, what can you do to give yourself and peasants a chance of rescue?

Get out of the temple building through a secret passage in the basement? Quite a probable rescue path...

You strain your mind to come up with some kind of solution.

We must leave the temple building as quickly as possible. Indeed, due to the numerical superiority of the enemies, continued defense in this building will only lead to inevitable ****. Inevitable painful ****. This is what awaits peaceful peasants, militiamens and... you.

You must run.

Temple basement? The secret passage in the basement that the coward you killed mentioned?

If this is the only way to escape, then this method is worth trying!

You shout to the peasants in a commanding tone: “Disassemble the wooden floor boards! We need to quickly get down to the basement! There is a secret exit from the building!”

These words instill grains of hope in the souls of **** people who have almost fallen into the abyss of despondency and hopelessness due to the expectation of an imminent terrible ****.

Peasants dismantle the wooden floor using improvised means. They break the wooden floorboards.

While this is happening, the militiamen continue to defend themselves against attacks from satyrs and wolves that are trying to break into the room.

Ten minutes later, the wooden floor in the center of the room was dismantled.

A pile of wooden planks has been thrown into a large hole in the floor.

You come up and examine this hole in the floor. You see a dark basement. You have already been there when you freed the priest Bernard and fought with the vile imp.

Bounce!

You jumped onto a mountain of wooden planks.

Fortunately, the height of the bounce was not too significant. Just a couple of meters. You only slightly hurt your knee.

We need to quickly inspect the basement.

You try to look around as quickly as possible and find a secret passage.

You look around the dark basement, feel the walls of the basement, look for any possible traces that can somehow help you in the current critical situation.

Within a couple of minutes you find nothing but dirt, garbage and rat shit...

You are almost ****...

But suddenly you catch an extremely faint breath of fresh air. And you see a rat that has noticed you and is running somewhere towards the basement wall.

You are moving in this direction.

There is a mountain of rubbish near the wall: broken wooden boxes, empty wooden barrels, some dirty rags.

You resolutely throw this pile of garbage away.

As a result, you see that behind this rubbish there was a passage hidden in the stone wall of the basement.

This is a small passage about a meter high and about one and a half meters wide.

One human will be **** to crawl along this passage on all fours. The peasants will need to climb into this passage one by one - one after the other.

Obviously, it will take considerable time for all the peasants to be able to crawl into this narrow passage.

You shout the words of command upward. The peasants hear you: the news that you have found a way out inspires these people.

You order the militiamens to continue defending the room from enemies while civilians go down to the basement and climb through the secret passage. You say that you will take civilians to safety. You also say that you will return after this for the militiamen to help them retreat.

This is not a very... "favorable" prospect for militiamens.

They are **** to continue to hold the defense of the room so that the enemies do not immediately pursue you. Probably all militiamens will die. They will be killed to distract the enemies and allow you and the peaceful peasants to escape.

Your words that you will “come back later” will most likely remain empty promises.

You think: “I'm doing this to save civilians! This is my main goal! "

But... is this really so? Perhaps there is something much more important to you? For example: saving your own life?

You drive away pangs of conscience.

Now is the time to act, not to think about morality.

One by one, civilians descend into the basement.

You help them act faster.

When they all go down to the basement, you are the first to approach the secret passage. You drop to your hands and knees and crawl down the secret passage into the darkness.

After a couple of minutes you realize that the narrow passage has ended. Now you can stand up.

You are in some spacious dark underground room. You take a torch from your bag and light it.

You see a stone ceiling, stone walls and steps that lead somewhere down and disappear into the darkness...

You hear distant muffled sounds coming from behind you.

Sounds of battle.

And the sounds of peasants crawling along a narrow passage after you.

You wait until all the peasants have climbed through the passage.

After some time this happens. Behind you are three dozen civilians from the village of Olinsford. Women, children, decrepit old people.

You see how they look fearfully into the darkness.

You say: "Don't be afraid of anything! Follow me! I will save you all!"

Having said these words, you move on, going down the steps.

The peasants follow you.

What's next for you?
