"There's no way you can prove any of this," he says.

I shake my head, "None at all aside from everything that I already know you. I know all of these things about you."

"But you could have found that out from somewhere else," he points out, but I can't accept that.

"From where, Eddie?" I counter, "I mean you're not exactly notable. There isn't fucking Google for people here and even if there was there isn't Facebook and even if there was you'd never join it."

"What's a Google?" he asks, "Face-"

"Nevermind," I shut him down, not wanting to get caught in a tangent, "It's a thing. Few years until either of them show up."

I take a deep breath, recenter, and go on, "Point is that you're not a notable individual. You don't have the paparazzi writing about you and following you around. There are no records that I could find about you. I couldn't look that information up if I wanted to.

"The best and most logical source for me to find out all of that is you. You had to be the one to tell me and I had to open my big mouth and parrot it all back at you but I was frustrated and you were being an asshole. A drunk asshole at that.

"And before you start saying that I'm a spy sent by your parents or a plant meant to humiliate you, you've got to ask yourself why. Eddie, your parents are dicks but they're also dicks who don't care enough to push you this way. And you haven't made enough enemies here to warrant having someone set out to humiliate you, not yet at least.

"In spite of what you might think you don't exactly call attention to yourself. It's not like you're walking around with a 'kick me' sign on your back.

"Think about it logically for a moment and you'll see that my points hold some water. And frankly think about it for a moment and you'll see that what I'm saying here, the story I'm spinning, makes a little bit of sense. Crazy as it might be, you have to at least admit the possibility."

Eddie gets this look in his eyes like it's a lightbulb moment and I just know he's going to fight, which is why I am grateful for about a minute at the interruption of girl-Kim shouting out to us.

"Come on, lovebirds! We're moving! Keep up!"

Begrudgingly we put one foot in front of the other. Following the group while keeping our distance while I try to parse out whether I'm glad or not that we're being given the space to work this out in some measure of privacy.

I'd just dumped everything on Eddie, every last thing that I wanted to say to someone for the last two and a half days. And I didn't want to fight to prove it anymore.

"Let's say I'm willing to admit it's a possibility," he starts and I breathe out a sigh of relief.

"Thank god."
