5. The boxes are empty

The boxes are easy enough to pry open. Malene guesses that’s because they’ve been emptied. Sighing, she looks to the door. If she can’t eat or sleep, she needs to work on escape. She goes up to the wooden door and tries the handle. It’s thankfully unlocked. Malene presses her ear against the door and tries to determine whether the other side is safe.
