8. Yes. Encounter: 3. The roots aren’t as safe as she thinks

As Malene beds down, she rests herself fully on the forest floor. As she does, she feels the warmth of the earth begin to envelop her. Before she can do anything, it’s too late and the earth swallows her.

She falls into a room with a flagstone floor. The earth above her closes over.

“NO!” Malene can’t help but cry out. She jumps for a dangling root but just misses it with the tips of her fingers. She’s alone in the dark room.

She blinks and rubs her eyes as they adjust to the darkness. Around her she can see a relatively empty room. Some boxes are stacked in a corner and she realizes the space is kept cool by a rune above the door. This is some kind of food storage.

Eagerly, she goes over to the boxes and begins to pry them open. If she can’t sleep, she needs to eat.
