Duncan V
The door closed behind me of its own accord as he walked in, just like last time.
Mother began as a small smile curled at the edge of her lip, “There is a new development to report. Our associate Nasira is no more.”
I gave a low whistle, “I was there. Even with unlimited power the best she could do was throw bigger fireballs."
"Nasira was beyond help, consumed by her own pride and hatred," mother said, "One should be wary of letting it grow too unwieldy."
"Well, I did my part," I told mother, "I brought the princess," I looked over at the Chinese princess strapped in the contraption next to one of the blondes.
I didn't like doing this. But it was necessary. Dawn would make it worth it. I just had to prove myself worthy. This was the only way. He had to gain mother's trust, then I'd dismantle the whole thing from the inside, once I had Dawn safe and sound.
And precisely because of that, I had no obligation to help a power hungry lunatic like Nasira. Good riddance to her.
Someone who could be tricked that easily didn't deserve the power they had. Better it be given to people who would use it wisely.
Mother turned to me, "By the way, I got something special for you."
I cocked my head.
"You help us, and we grant your wish..." mother waved her staff and an image of Dawn appeared on the table, quickening my heartbeat. She was naked and being forced to row while a pirate whipped her back.
"Dawn!" I exclaimed. "Where is she?"
"I cannot tell you. But she is suffering. Still it would be best for us to wait," mother said.
I looked up at mother, slightly confused.
"Why did you even show me this?" I asked firmly, "What benefit would this have if I can't do anything?"
She reached out to place her cold hand against my cheek, "You are my god of war."
I stepped away, knocking mother away in the process, "So I'm a replacement to Ares? You even named me after him?"
"You are Ares. His reincarnation. As Felix is the reincarnation of Athena. The two are destined to fight each other."
I turned to leave. My heart was aching... I had to save Dawn.
