Warmth

With the dawn, Kael wakes again. Strangely, he feels warmth, comfort. When he opens his eyes, he sees that Evie hasn’t woken up yet. She has hardly moved in her sleep, cuddled up against him. Even in her sleep, she looks content. Almost happy. Kael lays unmoving for a while, simply watching her.

She’s beautiful. He can say that without hesitation. She may not be human, but that’s hardly a detriment in his eyes. What’s more, she seems to care for him. Her act of dispelling his nightmares was nothing short of a miracle. And despite her obvious desire, she’s held back. And Kael has no interest in forcing things. The thought of hurting her, seeing that smile fade…it fills him with horror. He only wants her to be happy.

He feels…odd. He’s never been in this position before. Sure, he’s taken women into his bed, but it was never this…chaste. And the mornings after never felt so pleasant. Kael feels calm. Comfortable. Just watching Evie sleep, he smiles. She’s so delicate, so pretty. Kael gently brushes a bit of her hair away from her face, and softly kisses her forehead. Evie murmurs softly, stirring a bit.

Her eyes flutter open, and she looks a bit confused for a moment. Then she looks at Kael, and she relaxes. With a smile, she cuddles closer, nuzzling against his chest. Kael hugs her, rubbing her back.

“Good morning, Evie. Sleep well?”

She yawns, nodding. “Better than ever, master. Thank you. For…well, for everything.”

Kael smiles, giving her a squeeze. “I’m glad. And I should thank you just as much. This is a pleasant way to wake.”

Evie smiles. “I’m glad as well, master. Shall I go make breakfast?”

Kael shakes his head. “Not just yet. We have time, I have nothing pressing today. Let’s enjoy the moment.”

Evie doesn’t answer, just smiling some more and resting her head against his chest. Kael sighs, basking in the warmth, both the warmth of her slim body next to him, and the warmth he feels inside. Today is starting off well, and promises to be eventful, even without a battle in sight.
