Chapter 2 To The Lab

Teeth Brushed check, Shower check, Comfy travel clothes check, Sapphire successfully blue balling you on the phone….ugh check.

Walking down stairs you come upon the face you feared. Your mother with a wide grin. "Oh don't stop Bren Don't Stop" she chuckles. "Is that what you're hoping to hear from your friend, young man?

Your mother is the best mom you could have ever hoped for. She's kind, caring, has always been there for you……but she can be quite the embarrassing teaser. Her and your father met when they were both trainers. She is very used to the reality of being a trainer and always has supported your dream. Having decided to retire when Norman took up a gym leader position, she was elated to hear you were hoping to follow in their footsteps. The effect of her past has made her really casual about sex especially now that you're of age.

Your face begins to redden and you look at the ground.

"Honey I was a trainer too, don't be so embarrassed about sex. You're going to be filming sex tapes and have fans wanting to get in your pants. How do you plan to build that harem if you can't listen to people talk about sex"

"You know about that?" You say shocked.

"Of course I do mom to mom gossip and all. We over hear things hehe.I'm going to be following you sweetie. I know what's going to be behind those blur filters and I don't care. I want you to be a strong trainer like I know you can be. I also want you to have fun. It's a part of growing up.Now come on, I have food waiting."

You two head to the kitchen for breakfast. Your father is already in Petalburg and will spend quite a bit of time there during the season except for his scheduled off days.

"Thanks for that mom and for not teasing me in your pep talk"

"No problem now let's eat…..unless you wanna save your appetite for Saph I hear she has something for you to eat."

You chuckle and roll your eyes. Trying to hide the fact your face is turning a bright red.

As you finish up you head towards Professor Birch's lab. You don't have any of your traveling gear on you as you know final goodbyes are still in order at home.

Waiting for you outside Sapphire.

"Took you long enough spend more time in bed dreaming about my ass?"

"As if I have actual standards" you chuckle.

"Oh so it was Flannery or maybe Cynthia that you were jerking it to then." She teases.

You two enter the lab laughing with each other. Standing there with a big smile on his face is her uncle, the regional Professor Birch.

"I'm so excited for both of you" He exclaims.

"Watching both of you grow up and now you two are taking on your dreams…I know I'm not either of your dads but I surely feel like a proud one."

You both go to either side of him and give him a hug. For you Birch has always been like an uncle. Teaching you about Pokémon and nature while your dad was away. Then for Saph, her dad was never in the picture to begin with so Birch really was her father in a way.

"Sapphire sweetie I know you'll make a strong trainer and I'm so glad you're taking up research as well."

Sapphire like you wanted to be a trainer but she wanted to be a trainer researcher. The difference is that Research comes first for her and badges are secondary. You know it will lead to you guys eventually splitting up at points but you guys feel it's good to be away from each other.

"Then you Brendan I know you'll be a great trainer just like your father. Follow his example but blaze your own trail."

"Both of you have amazing stories yet to be written but don't forget your family here in Littleroot is to support you all the way. Lean on us when times are tough."

"Thank you uncle for everything you do for me" Sapphire says.

"I will always appreciate you professor you've been a big part of my life"

"Thank you both, I'm sure you're tired of hearing a sentimental academic talk. Now I know both of you and have acquired Pokémon that suit you….and yes I've eavesdropped on your conversations about your favorites."

He pulls out two Pokeballs one in each hand and presents them to you. You both take them with wide eyes wondering if he really got them. With a knowing nod you both release your new friends. In front of you a right flash of light reveals a green gecko looking creature. Just as you're about to introduce yourself…..you hear a squeak of delight.

"A Torchic ahhh uncle she's perfect."

At the little chick is frightened by the noise but then quickly begins chirping happily and jumps into Saph's arms excited to have an enthusiastic trainer.

Your and your Treeko's eyes return to each other. You reach down to say hello and he gives you a knowing nod and a fist bump.

"Okay cool guy, you want a ride?" He happily runs up your arm and attaches himself to your shoulder.

"That's not all hand me your Pokedexs and I'll update them for use as active trainers"

You both quickly hand over your older model Dexs and Birch takes them to his computer. You both look at each other excited but then…… you both seem to realize the same thing…..you need to challenge each other.

"Not here let's wait until we are on the road I'm sure we don't want to be doing it infront of our families" Sapphire whispers

"Agree, let's wait until we get to Oldale Town."

Professor Birch returns and hands you your Dexs back.

"Now I've set you both up and I have a feeling you two want to battle but wait until you're away from us. So I've gone ahead and set your Dexs to be inactive until you two decide to battle. You both will need to select the battle app and tap your devices together. After that you two will battle and you will be listed as active League participants so you're fair game."

"Thank you" you both say in unison.

"Here is a starting set of Pokeballs and a couple potions for emergencies. Now for you Sapphire I've already added a research assignment to your dex north of Oldale town is a flock of migrating bird Pokémon. I want you to investigate reports of potential other regions Pokémon following our own. Sometimes it's a phonomena of a species adopting another fledgling or a grown Pokémon set loose from a neglectful trainer. If it's the latter and that Pokémon seems lost or unable to fend for itself please capture it and bring it back here for rehabilitation."

"Understood Uncle!" She exclaims excited to have her first assignment.

"As for you Bren your father of course wants to see you so head toward Petalburg after you reach Oldale town."

You nod, knowing you and Saph will have to split up so soon hurts but you guys have already planned to meet up regularly and travel together on occasion.

Professor Birch gives you both a big hug.

"Now go on you two say the rest of your goodbyes and hit the road so you can reach Oldale by nightfall."
