Let the Battle Begin!

Melody v Brock

[POV Melody]

This was not your first-time challenging Brock so you knew a lot of his tricks. But that meant that he also knew some of yours. Considering your old tricks hadn’t worked, you needed to do something different if you wanted to win.

But you had not been idle this past month as you prepared to challenge Brock.

You give Brock a shit eating grin as you release your newest Pokémon. A companion that you had dedicated most of the last month and a half to train, bond, and strategize with. You just wished the kid in your stomach would stop moving around and let you concentrate.

Ignoring the pains in your abdomen you shout out “GO DAVID!” as you release your lead Pokémon.

David the Grimmsnarl was the newest edition to your team, and he was your newest trick and your Secret Weapon.

Brock wastes no time in throwing out his own Pokémon, “Go Ryperior!” Brock sending out his Ryperior was expected. It was his safe choice, and you knew what he planned to do with it.

You knew what Brock’s first few plays would be. Knowledge which was only confirmed when he gives the command “Stealth Rock” and you see the Ryperior shoot out multiple sharp jagged rocks, littering the battlefield with the dangerous hazards.

You give your own commands, “Reflect & Light screen!” to David who due to his Ability, Prankster, was able to carry out both commands almost simultaneously.

Brock commands the Golem to use “Drill Run” and the Pokemon charges at David with a horrifying attack.

An attack which you counter by shouting “Parting Shot” and instead of colliding with your Grimmsnarl, the Ryperior is stopped by your Nidoqueen.

Safe to say that Victoria was more amused than harmed by the ground attack. Not wasting the opportunity you shout, “ICE PUNCH!” and watch Brock’s lead Pokémon get taken out by your loyal starter.

As Brock recalls the fainted Ryperior, he maintains a stoic face and you can’t help but smile.

You had drawn first blood.

But now wasn’t the time to get cocky though, Brock was taking this battle seriously and wasn’t going to go down without a fight.

His next Pokémon reminded you of just how serious he was.

You recognized the scars this Aerodactly bore, and knew just how dangerous it was. His command of “Ice Fang” simply confirmed what you already knew.

You command Vicky to use “Ice Punch” and watch in anticipation as the two Pokémon charge at each other. You watch with dread as the two Pokémon savagely wrestle, punching and biting as they struggle against each other. Any additional commands either of you unneeded until the dust settles.

To your relief Vicky emerges from the struggle standing on top of the Aerodactly. But you can tell that she has little fight left in her.

But you also know that without the Reflect that Vicky would have lost.

You don’t dwell on that though, and in the few seconds it takes Brock to switch Pokémon you command Vicky to use “Toxic Spikes”. Whatever comes next, Victoria did her part.

You know what is going to happen next, you have seen it before. But that doesn’t stop the feeling of sick dread in your stomach (doesn’t help that the baby is kicking you, AGAIN) as you watch Victoria get taken out by an Aqua Jet which is so absurdly fast that you don’t have time to even try to shout out a command. But the sick look the Kabutops has told you that it hadn’t been able to avoid the poison trap left by your Nidoqueen.

The score was 2-1, but that didn’t mean you didn’t need to be careful.

You take a moment to consider your options before sending your Grimmsnarl David back out. Brock commands his Kabutops to use “Swords Dance!”

You counter by telling David to use “Thunder Wave!” and you can’t help but smile in satisfaction as Brock’s Pokémon is Paralyzed before it can even enhance itself.

The feeling is slightly ruined when you feel an all too familiar sensation of pain in your lower waist and you are **** to acknowledge what you had been ignoring all morning. You have been having contractions and they are getting closer together.

FUCK! YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS!

You do your best to ignore the pain as you shout out “Parting Shot” and switch out your Grimmsnarl for your Lucario, “Lucy! Use Swords Dance!”

Brock shouts at his Kabutops and even through the pain you can’t help but grin as you see the Paralysis continue to work. Now prepared, you command Lucy to use “Bullet Punch” and in a blitz of speed that is even faster than the Kabutops’ Aqua Jet, Lucy almost flies toward her target and attacks faster than the human eye can see.

When the dust and water settle, your tiny Lucario is standing on top of Brock’s Kabutops.

The score might be 3-1, but that doesn’t mean you are feeling easy yet. Now comes the hard part.

Brock’s next Pokémon is one that you still don’t have a perfect answer for. Not with Vicky unable to battle.

You command Lucy to use “Bullet Punch” and while you know your Lucario is doing damage, you don’t expect it to be enough to drop the rocky monster.

Sure enough, you hear Brock shout out “Earthquake” and watch in pain enhanced dread as Lucy falls.

Fuck, your contractions are getting worse…

With the score now 3-2 you send David back out. Brock commands his Golem to use Earthquake again. But with another command of “Parting Shot” the Grimmsnarl is swapped with Rose.

Rose isn’t exactly the toughest of your Pokémon. But thanks to the combination of Reflect and Parting Shot she manages to tank the blast. Ignoring the increasing pains in your abdomen you cry out “Moon Blast” and watch in satisfaction as Rose blasts a literal hole through the Golem.

With the score now 4-2, you breathe a little easier. You know that Brock would send out his Steelix to counter your Gardevoir. Which you would then counter with your Starmie.

Game, Set, match.

Only Brock doesn't send out his Steelix.

Instead, Brock sends out a terrifying looking Tyranitar.

“FUCK!”

Author’s Notes: Not going to lie, Grimmsnarl is one of my favorite Pokémon, and I started with Gen 1! A Dark/Fairy Goblin Pokémon is something that just SCREAMS awesome to me.

For some reason, Grimmsnarl reminds me of the Goblin King from Labyrinth. Yes, that is why Grimmsnarl is named David. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRC1X3050jY

Some Alternate Pics for David I considered.
