Chapter 4: Flashback to the past weeks

Hellen watched trees and other cars flew by from the passenger seat of the moving van. Everything went so fast the past two weeks. Hellen still couldn’t believe what was happening.

First she was living a horrible dead end life with her lovely husband, that was until she heard that her long disappeared father died in Malaysia from a heart attack and left her a mansion and a small countries worth of money. She learnt from Hamid, a partner and friend of her father and the attorney of the will that her father didn’t want to abandon her and her mother.

The day after meeting Hamid for the will they were off to Yorkshire where her father was buried. Hamid had given them a letter and a ring which they were supposed to leave on his grave for him. Hellen had gotten instructions on where to find it. Once arrived she found a stone pile near a willow, her fathers resting place. Mark had been by her side through the entire trip, staying with her no matter how long. Hellen had spent two hours just sitting next to his grave before leaving. The next day she visited again, with the flowers her mother always loved. She spoke to him, speaking of what she remembered and what her mother had told her. she questioned him, knowing fully that no answer would come. The third day in Yorkshire she had held it short, they were going back that day, back home. “Even though you weren’t there for the majority of my life, I’m still grateful for what you did for us, and for the chance you have given me now.”

Hellen had quit her dead end job the moment she came back, telling her bosses that they were assholes and leaches. “See you never bitches!” she remembered saying as she left the office building while flipping them off. Looking back she realised how childish it was, but it still felt so freeing.

They started packing the same day and cleaned up the appartement, they went out to buy champagne and went on a nice date to celebrate. They told their friend Sam about their move to a mansion that Hellen had inherited. Sam could be trusted with that much and she deserved to know why her friends were going to be leaving. However the two of them decided not to tell her about the money part of the inheritance.

Hamid came by aa few days before the move, handing over the final papers, including the blueprints of the house. He also explained that the firm had finished removing the items that were part of other peoples part of the will. Before he left he also handed over the keys to the house, each tagged with the respective doors.

“Earth to Hellen, we are nearly there. Why don’t you get the keys for the fence ready?” Mark called out to her, snapping her out of her daze.

Hellen opened her bag and found the bundle of keys. She spent the next 2 minutes searching for the correct one. Once she found the key with a purple tag with front fence written on it. She pulled it off of the keyring and put the other keys back. Mark took a turn into a side road and eventually came across a stone brick wall, he kept driving past it until they found a gate with a chain around it. Hellen jumped out of the car and bolted towards the gate, fiddling with the lock.

Mark watched her and couldn’t help but smile, he didn’t like seeing her all down in the dumps, but ever since they started the move she has cheered up and almost seems reborn.

Hellen pushed open the gate to let Mark drive in. once inside she jumped back in and the drove towards the mansion that lay straight ahead of them.

“Would you look at that, its even bigger than the picture made it out to be!” Hellen almost yelled.

She looked around the terrain and noticed a barn and a stable off to the side. “Look there, we could have horses and farm animals if we want! And there, is that a private little forest. Ow what if we build a swimming pool over there?” she pointed and called out like a child in a toyshop, It was plain adorable.

Mark parked the van at the entrance of the mansion and stepped out with Hellen.

“So what do you want to do?” look around first or start unloading and unpacking?”
