Chapter 5 by lonewolf038

What artifact draws Weiss's attention.

The Armor of the Tundra Unicorn

In a trance-like state Weiss approached one of the glass cases containing one of the dormant Sacred Beasts Armors. In this case, it appeared to be a white-gold tiara, with a series of engravings ornate, beautiful engravings all over it. At it's center was what at first appeared to be a pale blue jewel sticking out, but upon closer inspection, it seemed to be more like a tiny, slightly curved horn, and it was glowing as Weiss approached. The entire design gave the impression of it being a crown meant for royalty rather than a piece of armor.

"Weiss?" Ruby said, trying to get her friend's attention. "Weiss? WEISS!!!"

That last yell caused Weiss to snap out of her trance, and shake her head in a fit of unease. "What the heck was that?" she wondered.

"I don't know," Ruby commented, "maybe that armor noticed you, and thought you were worthy?"

"Ruby, don't be ridiculous," said Weiss, "these are pieces of armor, they're not sentient. At least they shouldn't be."

"Well the hologram said they chose the wearer, or something like that," Ruby explained, "and it looked like that tiara thingy was picked you and was trying to get your attention."

"Well I..." Weiss sputtered, "Whatever! What is this thing supposed to be even? It doesn't look like armor?"

"Let's find out," Ruby said as she touched the tiara's plastic case, causing another Oslo Green hologram to appear.

"This tiara before you," the hologram began, "contains the Armor of the Unicorn of the Elegant Eternal Tundra, or the Tundra Unicorn. This creature of beauty defended the families of nobles and royalty in ancient times, and was said to be a guide and caretaker for children who have lost their way in the forests she called home. When battling the creatures of Grimm, it was said that the Unicorn's magic horn allowed her to use almost anything as a weapon, while being able to freeze anything in sight within seconds. When seeking out its first champion, it was said that the Tundra Unicorn scoured Remnant, searching for whomever she could deem worthy to wield her power, and eventually found a princess of a faraway land. The princess was a brave and elegant young woman who could dance her way across a battlefield with a sword just as easily as she could through a forest full of delicate animals. Future champions were then sought out by disciples and worshipers of the Unicorn, who sought out possible candidates among the various families of aristocracy and royalty, choosing a young woman that the tiara deems worthy to wear it, and wield the powers of the Tundra Unicorn. Now it sits here, waiting for a young woman of high society, and an elegant heart, to unleash its power once again."

"That's basically you, Weiss," Ruby said after the hologram disappeared.

"I..." Weiss paused, "No. No it isn't."

"C'mon Weiss," Ruby whined. "An elegant and pure hearted noblewoman? That's you in a nutshell. Just replace nobility with company heiress, and you're golden."

"Stop it Ruby!" Weiss snapped, "I know what you're doing. Even if I actually WANT some piece of armor fused to me, I don't think that's for me. I know you insist on trying to see the good in most people, but I'm not a good person. I come from a family whose patriarch is a greedy, controlling, petty man, and my mother is a depressed alcoholic whose given up on being happy, all because I abandoned her; and I'm no better, with how I treated Blake early on at Beacon, and how I felt like I was above everyone else... I'm no pure hearted woman with a noble heart. I almost no better than my father."

Suddenly, Ruby slaps Weiss's face with her unarmored hand, with tears streaming across both of their faces.

"Don't you dare compare yourself to that jerk, Weiss," Ruby said with a stern look, "You may be Jacques Schnee's daughter, but he isn't your dad. You may have come off as a snotty, stuck up rich girl with a superiority complex, but you've become so much better since then. I've seen you become more tolerant of faunus, and even making an ice sculpture in the shape of a playground for a bunch of kids to play with once."

"Well that was part of a good will mission we took during our second semester at Beacon," Weiss argued, "I just-"

"Then there was the time you helped Jaune with that study session after the dance," Ruby continued.

"Well, only because he got Neptune to dance with me," Weiss commented, "I felt like I owe him."

"Not to mention the time you made that big cake for me and the rest of the team, as well as teams JNPR, CFVY, and SSSN," Ruby went on, "and you didn't even need a cake butler for help."

"Well I felt obligated to do something nice for everyone that day," said Weiss, "and there's no such thing as a "cake butler", why would anyone need a butler just to make cakes. That's ridiculous."

"Really? I thought I heard you had one from somewhere, "Ruby said as she opened the plastic case and took out the tiara, "but you see my point. Weiss, the way I see it, you are a good person deep down, despite whatever your father, or anyone else thinks. So prove all the doubters wrong, including you. Got it?"

Weiss looked at the ornate tiara, with the hornlike jewel still faintly glowing, in Ruby's hands, taking her friend's words into consideration. With a moment to reflect on what was said, and her past experiences, she took the tiara in her hands, and had only one thing to say: "Got it." Upon placing the it on her head the jewel began to glow even brighter.

"Oh, I should mention," Ruby said quickly, "when I put my armor on, there was a brief pain all over my wrist, like something was stabbing into it. So I think you should brace yourself since the armor is starting from you skull."

"Wait, What?" Weiss said just as the tiara on her head began to tighten, and soon after, a series of pins and needles began could be felt around where her head was covered. This was followed by a massive stabbing sensation in the middle of Weiss's forehead, right where the hornlike jewel sat on the tiara. As the sensation quickly drilled into her skull, Weiss dropped to her knees and screamed in sheer agony. Fortunately, the sensation only lasted for a rough five seconds, and Ruby was there to comfort her and help her back to her feet. As Weiss tried to get her bearings, she could feel the tiara start to... expand, moving down the sides and back of her head. While the tiara expanded, the parts of her hair that would have been covered were moved by its magic in a way that allowed it to grow over the top of her tiara (which works well anyway considering she always has it in a ponytail). The new piece of armor grew to a point where it covered everything from the original tiara to where the neck met her head. And as it covered her ears, the armor grew a set of peculiar, almost elvish looking (or rather horse-like given the context) metallic ears that occasionally moved in a twitch. Despite her original ears being covered, it seemed like Weiss's hearing had improved, making Weiss wonder if this is anything like how a faunus's own improved hearing is. Finally, the hornlike jewel at the center of the original tiara began to grow into a long, elegant, beautiful curved horn, stopping at about 4 inches in length. As the physical changes ended, Weiss felt a strange sensation in her mind, as if she was getting a **** feeding of education in the span of a few seconds.

A moment later, Weiss turned her attention to Ruby, who was still holding her steady after the initial shock of pain she felt. She took a step back away from her friend, and proceeded to concentrate one of her new powers on Ruby. As Weiss's new jewel horn began to glow again, Ruby suddenly felt like she was lifted up in the air, which she was, about 7 feet in the air.

"Weiss?" Ruby said in a slight panic. "Weiss?! Weiss what are you doing?!"

"Teaching you a lesson for not warning me in advance about this thing being drilled to my skull, and giving me the Worlds WORst MIGRAINE!" Weiss cried out.

"Okay! Okay! You made your point!" Ruby cried, "I'm so sorry Weiss! Now put me down! Please!"

Weiss then complied, releasing her new telekinetic magic, and causing Ruby to fall to the floor on her butt.

"Ouchy," Ruby grumbled.

"*hmph* Serves you right," Weiss said as she used her new power again to bring a nearby mirror in front of her in order to get a good look at her new headgear. Intrigued by her new metallic additions over her ears, and her new horn, she brought her hands over them, and was surprised by the sensation of actually feeling her fingers as they touched her the metal ears, and the crystal horn, as if they were a part of her body.

"Kind of weird, being able to feel through them," Ruby commented, and Weiss nodding in agreement. "They do look pretty though."

"I suppose they do, in a way," Weiss agreed, "let's just hope there's some boy who's into something like this." The two girls then looked at each other, and then giggled a little. Suddenly, Weiss's metallic ears twitched on their ball-socket-like joints. She could hear footsteps fast approaching; someone was coming towards them from around the corner.

Who arrives on the scene now?
