Chapter 60

Time to head back?
Georgia on my mind
Today was the final day. The last day at the Pearsons', or, moreover, the last morning there. This was your last time waking up in this bed, at least for the foreseeable future. Although some things would change or go back to normal when you arrived back at Cooke, there were some things that happened here that wouldn't. At least, some things that you didn't want to change when coming back.
One of those things was waking up with Amy. Your bed at college wasn't exactly spacious, but the two of you didn't exactly need space between each other when going to sleep. You did realize that this might become a bit more of an issue when it wasn't just you and Amy, but that was a bridge you were gonna cross when you got there.
"I'm gonna miss this," Amy said as she heard your rustling beside her, confirming that you were awake. "Waking up wrapped in your arms has been probably my favorite part of this surprise vacation. Well, maybe second-favorite, but you and I both know what my favorite is."
"I mean, it doesn't have to change when we go back to college," you reached. "You could just spend the nights in my room, there are no rules against that."
"Yeah, but there is a rule saying I can't stay more than one night in a row," she resigned. "So it'd have to be an every other day thing, and that's too infrequent for me."
That might be something you'd have to buy. Great Hospitality, at least the half-priced option, was only 100 Affection Points, and while you had zero right now, some people like Summer and Heidi weren't exactly far from reaching 150.
"There is something I can buy in the Affection Multiplier app to bypass the rules of the dorm," you inform her, "but sadly, I don't have enough points to do it right now."
"Well, don't press too hard to try and get it," Amy said. "I don't necessarily want you getting too friendly with anyone else too quick."
"Don't worry, I won't rush into anything. Plus, they're only affection points that I need, which I can get from just being friends with someone."
"What about Summer?"
"What about her?"
"She's a pretty good friend with you, maybe more, maybe I'm just delusional," Amy said. You were a bit surprised that she was bringing up Summer, but then you remembered that she wouldn't particularly mind Summer being in this relationship. "You could get her scores up pretty easily."
"You're not telling me to start chasing Summer around, are you?"
"Not necessarily," she said quietly. That and her blushing told you that she didn't exactly want to say anything more about it, but she had a lot to say about it.
A silence loomed over the room for a second. It wasn't uncomfortable silence though, just silence.
"I don't want to get up," Amy said. "If I get up, that means that we can't keep being like this."
"Me neither," you said wistfully. "But we probably have to if we want to get back to campus early enough."
"Fine..." Amy pouted.
It took another 15 minutes or so for the two of you to actually get out of bed.
"Good morning, Cody," Mr. Pearson said to you as you entered the kitchen to fix yourself some breakfast.
"Good morning, Mr. Pearson," you responded.
"I heard you and Amy are leaving this morning?" he said in a half-question.
"Yeah, we're probably going to head out right after breakfast so we can get back a little after lunchtime," you answered.
"You've gotten all of your work done, right?" he continued to ask.
"Yeah, I've had plenty of free time during the day," you answered.
"Really? I thought you'd've spent every waking moment during the day with Amy," Evelyn said.
You whipped your head around to see the younger sister walking into the kitchen groggily as she reached for the coffee pot. With her dad here, it was difficult to retaliate at all.
"Evelyn..." her dad warned.
"Sorry, sorry, I know," Evelyn waved it off as if they'd had this conversation hundreds of times. "He's a guest, and I should antagonize my sister's boyfriend." She shot you a furtive knowing glance as she said the word "boyfriend".
You just stood there awkwardly as the two of them continued to talk about you before you started to shuffle sideways to open the fridge.
"...and what about Thanksgiving? His parents might still be in Europe then!" her dad exclaimed. You didn't catch the start of that comment, but you made an assumption that he was talking about you coming here for Thanksgiving.
"It's not a huge deal," you told Mr. Pearson. "I don't mind Evelyn making a joke or two. I would probably do that in her situation too."
It felt kinda weird defending Evelyn, but it really wasn't a huge deal. You figured Mr. Pearson wouldn't have much to say about it.

"Got everything in the car?" Mrs. Pearson asked as you came back inside after putting Amy's last suitcase in the trunk.
"Yep, got everything ready to leave," you answered.
"Well, it was nice having you around here, Cody," Mrs. Pearson says. "Don't be a stranger, you're always welcome here!"
"Thanks for having me over, especially on such short notice," you respond. "I don't know what I would've done without you all."
"Oh, don't mention it," Mrs. Pearson said, waving it off. "You're like family to us. Well, most of us, at least." She motioned to Amy coming out of the hallway as she said that last part.
"What happened?" Amy said.
"Oh, nothing, we're just making fun of you," you said.
After saying your final goodbyes, including Evelyn, who wrapped you in a tighter-than-normal hug and lingered for longer than would be necessary, you and Amy filed into the car and headed back to campus.
What do you do when you get back?
