Chapter 50

Who is it?
Surprisingly, Heidi
As soon as you flipped your phone over and saw the text from your stand partner, your loving partner spoke up.
"Who is it?" Amy asked.
"It's Heidi", you simply said, not even having read the text yourself yet.
Her text was merely about music, her sending you a screenshot of the next song that Adams was adding into the field show next week, captioned with "Can you believe she's making us do this? This is heresy! If she's seriously asking me to march that fast while playing this, I'm gonna start a mutiny."
"She's starting a mutiny?" Amy asked as she read the text beside you. "I'd join her if my part looks as bad as that."
"Yeah, but you play the clarinet, so no one'll be able to hear your part anyways," you quip. This earned you a playful jab in the side.
Heidi continued her thought by saying "I mean, she expects me to play fucking sixteenth notes whilst marching halfway across the field? What kind of **** is she taking?"
You and Heidi texted for a bit, with you mainly trying to calm her down from her anger. You figured that while she was usually chipper, she could get really pissed off if something rubbed her the wrong way. After a few minutes, you felt Amy fidgeting beside you.
"Amy?" you asked, leaving it open-ended as to what you would ask.
"Sorry, I just-", she tried to explain, "I don't know, it's just that-"
Looking back at your phone, you saw what it was that Amy was looking at. Heidi's last text which you had yet to read simply said "I don't know, I just feel like you could calm me down a lot better if you were actually here."
Ah.
"You better not be trying to get with Heidi too," Amy said somewhat jokingly, but you could detect a hint of seriousness in her tone.
How do you finesse this issue? You don't want to come off as a liar again. I mean, technically nothing you had said has been a lie, just not the entire truth. You could try and deflect this...
"I have you, Amy," you said. Not untrue, but not really answering the question.
She took it as an answer though, answered with a small kiss on your cheek, and then finally found a show to watch.
Heidi's final text to you said "Thanks for talking with me though. Adams sometimes gets on my nerves, but I'm glad someone like you is able to talk with me when I get high-strung."

The movie went by with little else happening. Amy snuggled up to your side as it progressed, but nothing major happened between the two of you. Even though her parents and sister were out of the house again like last night, your lives weren't dominated by sex, just an affinity for being together.
Around 3, Evelyn entered the house in her usual fashion, seemingly kicking open the door as she came inside hastily. It was still raining outside, the remnants of the hurricane continuing to make their way inland. As Evelyn opened the main door, Amy scooted a bit away from you.
"It's wetter out there than the damn ocean," Evelyn semi-yelled as the storm door slammed behind her. "Oh, hey, you two. Didn't mean to barge in on you, go back to whatever you were doing."
You could see her facial expression fall as she glanced over at the two of you, and you guessed that it had to do with what she talked about earlier today, where she mentioned she had never had any experience dating. You had been in a similar boat as her, your first date being with Amy, so you understand how she was feeling; lonely.
She didn't run off to her room, but her pace was significantly quicker than a normal walk as she made her way down the hall.
"You should probably check in on her," Amy said. "She'll actually talk to you."
Author's Note: I apologize for not updating this branch as often as I did at the start, but I've been experiencing a lot more writer's block recently. I appreciate all of the support you've given me on my first major project, even when I'd left the story for awhile. 50 chapters is 49 more than I would've expected to go, and it's all because of you. This was never going to be an overly smutty branch, since I enjoy writing more story-related, well, stories, but the fact that you are still enjoying it has been a huge morale boost. Again, thank you for reading.
Go check on Evelyn?
