Emily Prologue and Start

Emily studiously worked through the hour. Unlike many of the others, she took her studies seriously. But, unlike many of the others, she had scratched the surface and seen the truth. She had torn the veil. She had seen a ghost.

Her parents, dead had come and spoken to her, every night for almost a week past the 'accident' she saw them. They spoke of a strange land, a Limbo, the Tatakama. They spoke of schools that trained people in skills used to journey across the veil. They hinted and monsters and plots, allies, and enemies. They reassured her of their love, and, they disappeared.

She had found Trinity sometime thereafter, and had enrolled. Her family having had ties to the Gothic-Christian Church, her guardian had no objection. Now, she was eighteen and could control such things herself.

Still, time had passed, and she had found some secrets. A hidden shelf of tomes in the libraries, a strong belief that when the Sisters went out, that many times they went to that strange other side. Her frustration was that she hadn't yet found a way in herself. However, rumors said that sometimes the sisters did seek out interesting opportunities for their students when they came towards graduation. She had hoped that somewhere within all the college applications something about that world would be slipped, hidden between the lines. She had found nothing.

Still, she had found the tomes. Strange bestiaries and spellbooks filled with writings that she did not understand. Emily knew it all pertained to the other side though, she knew it to have been written to help others that found themselves there.

So, even if the Sisters didn't want to let her in on their secrets, Emily didn't waste her time.

When study hall was dismissed and the others went on their way to the dorms, she made her way to the library, to squeeze the last bit of the study that she could out of the night.
