Janet tries to fight it.

"Maybe I can resist it?" Janet suggested.

Sam and Jake looked at each other and shrugged. Janet realized that it doesn't really work that-

"No! No! I'm fighting it! I know you think it doesn't work that way, and of course it doesn't, but- urgh, I can't stop thinking that it doesn't!" She was starting to get frustrated. Sam tried to put a reassuring hand on her shoulder but she backed away, her breathing already steadying as Jake and Sam's influence affected her.

"No. Ok, I'm calmer now, and I know that's because of you. We can work on that later. Right now I want to fight this. I know it can't be fought because you know it can't be fought, but just the fact that I still want to try means something, right?" Janet looked at them desperately. "I guess people try impossible things in impossible situations. That's from one of you too, isn't it? Ok, let's think. The sky is red. I know the sky's not red, you know the sky's not red, but I can conceive of a red sky."

Sam was starting to catch on. "If you can say the sky is red and think based on that hypothetical, we may be able to work around this a little bit!"

Janet smiled. "It's so nice to have someone to talk to about this. Before me you were dealing with this on your own. Oh man, that's from you too, isn't it? And why do I feel so confused and left out?" They both turned to stare at Jake.

He shrugged. "Hey, I feel what I feel. Whatever's going on between you two is a mystery to me."

Sam thought about it. "But it looks like we can fight it, right?" Jake nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."

Janet's eyes lit up. "So let's think through this. Jake believed there was no way to resist this, so we did too. We were able to construct a hypothetical scenario where we resisted it, and using that hypothetical we convinced Jake that it's possible. Now we believe it's possible because he does. I think we just figured out a workaround! Not a great one, but we were able to change our own minds by changing Jake's."

Jake pressed a hand to his temple and Janet frowned. "This is giving us a headache."
