Chapter 24
by
SG
Does this complicate matters?
Of course.
"So I'm on the bottom rung of the ladder." Janet sighed. "I guess it could be worse, although I don't see how. Wait a minute, did one of you think that? Ugh, this is a lot of work."
Sam gave her a pitying smile. "At least you don't have to go through it alone." It occurred to Janet just how difficult the last day must have been for them. At least, she thought it occurred to her - maybe it occurred to Jake, or maybe to Sam.
"Ugh, this is horrible. Am I even me anymore? How much am I me? Can I even think independently?"
Jake sighed. "We've done a lot of experimenting. It seems like you can still have independent thoughts and emotions, although they're generally overridden by mine- ah, Sam's. You'll feel the things she does and agree with the things she believes but you can also form your own beliefs. Also, you'll have a complete view of everything in her mind - for better or worse - but she'll have no insight into yours."
"It could definitely be worse. At least it's my sister and not some weirdo I barely know. No offense."
"None taken." said Sam and Jake at the same time.
"Interesting." Jake said, then Janet spoke. "It seems like when you're communicating with a third party your words tend to line up. I knew it'd be useful having... me? Goddamnit, are you in my head again? Obviously you are, and I know you're trying not to be. Wait, I only know that because- ugh, my head!"
She put her hands to her temples and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she seemed a little calmer. "Alright, I doubt it's really me who wants it, but I want to see what things are like now that there's three of us. What should we try first?"
What's their next move?
