Chapter 28
by RedMonika
Does the Akkadian watch?
No, he goes to bed.
The Akkadian has never been a pious man and he is very tired. Besides, he feels strange to witness the worship of this goddess when he is in fact a man. He is not sure if it is allowable, and out of respect for his friend's deeply held faith he declines. "Thank you, but I am not a follower of your goddess and I am very tired. Blessing to her and you, but I should get some sleep."
Naerwyn nods understandingly, her only request is to have her cloak back. The assassin willingly takes it off and gives it to her. The thief puts on the cloak and reaches over and gently kisses the Akkadian's cheek. "Good night Minaja, may Pteor give you pleasant dreams."
As the Akkadian turns and goes to the bed he hears the rogue say. "You have been an answer to prayer Minaja."
Unsure on how to reply, and feeling a bit guilty that he isn't really Minaja, the Akkadian simply says "good night." and goes to bed.
His last glimpse that evening is Naerwyn approaching the shrine with the sigil. The assassin notes she is wearing the cloak with the hood down and has left on her sword belt with its weapons. She puts a shawl over her head and puts the sigil on the shrine.
The Akkadian quickly drifts off to sleep to Naerwyn's deep rich voice as she sings a lament in a foreign tongue that is beautiful and encouraging as well as haunting and sad.
Does the Akkadian make it through the night?
