“Listen, uh, Scarlet.” You swallow and then drink some water. “About the whole drugging your thing, I… I didn’t mean to… I’m sorry. I got caught up in my own vengeance scheme and used you.”

Scarlet doesn’t look up, but she talks. “Warren. You’re outside your playing field, but I don’t want to hold it against you. There’s a twisted side of me that gets your direction, but there’s another side that wants you dead.”

You suspect there’s more in her head, but she remains silent and shuts up. The food in your tray wasn’t that appetizing initially, but now it looked damn near revolting. You drink your water again, letting the quiet build before speaking.

“I know,” you tell her. “I can’t change that, and that means very little to you currently, I’m sure, but don’t let that one night forbid you from asking me for help if you need any on the hike back.”

Scarlet smirks and shakes her head. “I’ll be fine."
