Chapter 4 by danglinghope danglinghope

What's next?

The meeting.

You hate being alone with your boss. She's very intimidating, and you've always had the feeling that she isn’t very fond of you. When you manage to sneak a look at the app, you confirm that.

[Richler, Rene - Affection Score: -50]

"Geez.", you think. "This app is a window into my soul, and I don't like it."

But if it works, and you're hoping it does, that could change.

You watch Scarlett walk in after you, not nervous at all. You take this time to eye her up and down. When she's not biting your head off, she's very pretty. She's a few inches shorter than you and skinny, wearing a yellow blouse and grey skirt.

Shortly after, you see Callie and someone completely new to you walk in. You know Callie, but not for positive reasons. Despite you being her senior, having worked here longer, and not having any particular skills, she's managed to keep getting promotions over you. You hate her so much.

[Cio, Callie - Affection Score: -10.]

[Stone, Olive - Affection Score: 0]

A few things to take away from that. You dislike Callie way more than she dislikes you. But also, this app can take in info that even you don't know, like this chick's name.

Olive is a bright eyed, small, slim redhead. From what you can tell, she appears to be a new hire.

Once you're all settled in, Rene starts to speak. "I have an opportunity for the four of you, if you accept. We have the opportunity of a life time. A producer for an upcoming TV show wants us to help work on the marketing campaign. If you can convince them to work with us, it'll be great for business, and put you on track for a promotion, or even more. Though this'll have to be done during your time off, it could prove to be a positive for your career."

The room goes silent. Give up your free time on a shot to maybe get a promotion? Who does that?

Before today, you wouldn't have. But you have something that tells you this will help, so you'll go for it.

You step up. "I'll help work on the campaign." You wonder if that's the right thing to say, and secretly check your phone.

[Richler, Renee - Affection Score: -45 (+5)]

"Oh, Max? Good initiative! Are the rest of you in or out?"

You look at the new girl, Olive. You smile at her and not your head. This causes her to step up. "I'll go too! This could be the biggest thing I've ever been a part of."

This causes Scarlett to step up, not wanting to be outdone by a new hire. "I think this will be a great job for me, Miss Richler."

Callie steps up too, not wanting to be left out.

Rene couldn't be happier. "Okay, so the four of you should get together to work on this. You have until the end of the month to come up with a good marketing angle. I'm counting on you!" With that, you watch Rene leave the room.

"Damn." You think to yourself. "What I wouldn't do to get with her."

Scarlett naturally tries to take the lead. "Okay, so I think if none of us have anything after work, we should all meet up immediately after our shifts are over?"

Callie shakes her head. "I can't, I go straight to the gym after work."

Olive chimes in with her suggestion. "How about after your workout? That gives us all a chance to unwind after work, instead going straight from our jobs to another tough project."

"Great idea!" You say. "But we can't meet at my place. I have roommates. Scarlett, you're always talking about how you have your own place. We should go to yours."

"I can't help but agree, Max."

"Any objections?" When nobody responds, you open the door. "Alright, I'll see you after work! Go team!"

Scarlett and Callie leave, but Olive stays behind. "Um, Max? Thanks for convincing me to join."

"No problem, Olive."

Olive's smile turns to a look of confusion. "I never told you my name."

Shit, you forgot about that part. App is messing with your brain already. "Oh, Rene mentioned it before you walked in."

Olive seems to accept that answer, and walks out. Now that you're alone, you check the app.

[Cio, Callie - Affection Score: 0 (+10)]

[Friday, Scarlett - Affection Score: -34 (+1)]

[Richler, Renee - Affection Score: -45]

[Stone, Olive -Affection Score: 11 (+11)]

Under Olive's section, you notice something new.

[Love score: 0]

[Lust Score: 1 (+1)]

That's interesting. You think you understand, but click for more detail anyway.

Love Score: Gives a numerical value to the amount of romantic affection a person holds for you. It appears only when the person starts developing these feelings for you. For reference, most teenage couples go steady at scores of 25 to 35 and most happily married couples have scores ranging from 55 to 70 points. Should a person reach 100 points, they’ll be completely devoted to you.

Lust score: Gives a numerical value to the amount of sexual desire a person feels towards you. A person does not necessarily needs to have developed romantic feelings them to feel lust. For reference, most sexually active individuals fluctuate from 40 to 60 points. This score is the most prone to heavily fluctuate, as sexual desire raises or drops depending on the person.

It's a small number, but impressive that you got that from Olive already. You're not used to being desired at all.

The rest of the day goes by pretty uneventfully, with you riding off that high.
