Chapter 67 by Jpyric Jpyric

All three of you laugh, and settle in to wait for the food.

Unpleasant visitor

Despite the big plans from the girls, nothing more happens for a few days. The four of you are blissfully happy together, and with Dakota moved in you feel like a family. It feels right, like this is how it was supposed to be all along. And with the cafe opening soon, the girls are bouncy with excitement, even shy little Ellie. You even begin to see flyers going around, advertising the opening. Even though you have little to do with the project, the excitement is infectious.

Unfortunately, a little bit of hype can lead to recognition. One night, a few days before the opening, the four of you are relaxing as usual when there’s a knock at the door. Since you’re currently covered in a snuggling goblin, Dakota hops up to answer it. You hear her asking what the person wants, and you don’t pay much attention until you hear the response. The voice you hear makes you sit up in surprise.

It’s Kelly. She actually came to your house. “Yes, I’m looking for Brian. Does he still live here?”

Gently, you slide Mazzy and Ellie off of you, despite their protests. You quickly make your way to the door, and your emotions must be obvious, because as soon as Dakota sees your face, she frowns. You put an arm around her waist, and come face to face with your ex for the first time in over a year.

Kelly looks much like she always has. Tall and beautiful, with long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, she knows exactly how good she looks. Those eyes look between you and Dakota, who rests her head on your shoulder.

Kelly speaks first, holding up one of the advertisements for the cafe. “Just what is this, Brian? I told you what your association with these creatures was doing to me!”

You shake your head. “And I told you exactly how little I care. Why are you here?”

“To talk some sense into you! Didn’t you even think what this could do to me?!”

Suddenly, it all becomes clear. She clearly thought that if she showed up in person, you’d fall all over yourself to please her, like you had when you were together. She simply can’t conceive of the fact that someone has replaced her. In her mind, she’s still the center of your universe, which simply isn’t the case.

You laugh. “Not for a second! You’ve been out of my life for over a year, Kelly. I’ve moved on, as you can see.”

Dakota flashes a grin. “He’s happy with us! Now go away!”

Kelly gives Dakota a venomous glare. “What do you mean, ‘us’?”

Just then, Mazzy wanders over and takes your hand, looking Kelly up and down. “Oh, is this the infamous Kelly? Hmph. You definitely upgraded, love.”

The look of disgust on Kelly’s face tells the story. Before she can answer, you laugh. “I agree, Mazzy. Now, go away, Kelly. If you cared about me at all, you would have been around for the past year. And the person that cared about you is gone. So you have no reason to be here.”

Kelly is glaring at you now, her eyes like shards of ice. “If you knew what this was costing me, you wouldn’t be so smug. We’re not finished!”

With that, she turns and walks away. You sigh and close the door. “I get the impression that she’s going to be a problem, going forward.”

Dakota laughs. “That blonde bitch doesn’t know who she’s messing with. Maybe she should watch out for us!”

You chuckle. “Ok, miss gangster. It’s a lot less scary when I know you call me daddy.”

Mazzy giggles. “Hey! Just because we’re kinky weirdos doesn’t mean we can’t be tough!”

You smile at the little halfling. “Fair enough. Now, I think we have some cuddles to get back to.”

Both girls faces light up with smiles, and they drag you back to the couch.
