Chapter 5 by HMG HMG

Notebook

"Hey, has she calmed down a little?", Karl asked with concern in his voice, seeing Fuchs entering his room.

"I put her to sleep. The rest are also in beds. Though I doubt Dina would close her eyes even for a moment tonight", Felix leaned agnist the edge of the desk with uneasy face. He did not like when anyone was sad, especially his own girlfriend, "I know the evening hasn't turned out to be great as you planned, but I still think everyone appreciates how much you bring to our game nights."

"Don't sweat. Next time it will be better... if we don't invite Dina", Kraus relaxed in his chair, staring thoughtfully at the hundreds of notebooks and folders on the shelf in front of his eyes. They were all records of adventures he arranged during RPG's meetings, which reminded him of how much he liked to organize them.

"I don't want to be the devil's advocate, but I remind you that Ross was also pain in the ass when we started... and take a look at him now. Maybe he is still like a thorn in the shoe, but at least he now works as a team, and I doubt it would be so much fun without arguing with him constantly", Felix smiled, as he thought of the countless actions that came in the past gatherings, just because he had a different temper and personality than Ritter, "Perhaps Dina would be the same, if we gave her a second chance."

"Manheim always said never give a second chance", Kraus replied, not bearing the idea of Edana as someone close to his hearth, "Because the players never change."

"Your brother also used to say there is no fun without improvisation, and what purpose game has, when everyone plays the same character", Fuchs closed the door behind him, leaving his friend to ponder.

Manheim Kraus, an RPG legend and older sibling of Karl, and a person who went missing two years ago. The brother remembered him well, and even began to idolize him like a real god, when he disappeared. He did everything in his footsteps, conducted gatherings in the same way, designed scripts and even wrote down every event in form of journals.

"The journals...", Karl got up with a fresh surge of energy. He was going through the collected data, trying to find the oldest written word. He did not know what had gotten into him, whether he felt guilty for a failed evening, or whether he really wanted to reconcile his friends, even if Edana was one of them, "Gottcha!"

The old dusty notebook ended up in Kraus's hands. He opened it like a holy book, anointing every word his brother wrote in it. To his suprise and anger, there was only one sentence in the journal.

"I want all my players to roleplay their characters as I intendend and have fun", Karl read it aloud, not sure what to do with gained knowledge. He did not know if he should treat the words like a rule, like a mantra, or as a warning.

Resigned, Kraus slanted back and after some consideration, he unhooked the pen from the cover of the notebook and wrote his own conceit:

I want all my players to step into the roles too, my brother
