So one of your best friends is a monster hunter...
You Always Thought Jenny's Family Was Weird
"So, my family was pretty much fresh off the boat as Phineas Farraset built this house. Pop-Pop was always kind of in his father's shadow. I mean, how could he not be? The guy took out Dracula. So Pop-Pop decided he was going to get away from the rest of the family and chase down the one that got away."
"So wait," Allegra interrupts, "the guy that built this house was on your family's radar?"
"Yeah, Abraham Van Helsing always had trouble tracking down the mad doctor types. There was just so much variability, you know? So many ways to make a monster that a lot of the old rules didn't apply."
"And in this guy's case," you surmise, "he wanted to make monsters with that machine in the basement."
"And Pop-Pop made sure he never got to. Assembled a crew. A prizefighter, a priest, even a sharpshooter from a traveling Old West show who... uh.. wound up being my grandmother."
"Exciting stuff," Allegra says, suitably impressed.
"It was kind of the last bit of glory days for monster hunting in North America," Jenny nods. "Dad never got to take down any really cool monsters. Mostly just got to tangle with the Jersey Devil and... well, I think the other one he always rambles about is the Skunk Ape."
"Not super glamorous," you chuckle.
"Now seriously," Jenny says, fixing you two with a look, "What happened while I was down there? What are you guys wearing?"
"We... had a run-in at the Werewolves' Den," you admit.
Allegra glares daggers at you sidelong.
"Which... well, things got crazy but you kicked the crap out of that machine so I think we're good now?"
Allegra gives two thumbs up.
Jenny looks back and forth between the both of you with some suspicion.
"We're fine, Jenny." Allegra insists.
"You better be," Jenny grumbles.
