No, Jenny's Going to Answer Some Questions First

"What happened to us? What the hell was that, Jenny?" You ask in disbelief.

"...kind of a long story," she hedges.

"No seriously," Allegra presses. "I've never seen you move like that."

"Okay, I swear I'll explain everything, but not here. For now, you remember all those summers my parents sent me away to band camp?"

"Yeah?" you ask, eyebrows raising.

"Wasn't. Band. Camp." She says with a tight jaw.

"Okay, let's... let's get some fresh air," you propose.

"Sounds like a plan," Allegra shrugs, the three of you heading for the basement stairs.

Emerging from the basement, you see an awful lot of confused attendees, as well as a few performers. One dressed as a witch is clutching her pointy hat and sobbing uncontrollably.

You hear someone shout "Sis!" over the chaos, and you turn to see your brother making his way through the crowd.

Keith is wearing those same strange robes you saw during the earlier flash in his office. Emerging from the throng he looks at the three of you with genuine concern.

"Sis! Thank god you guys are alright. What happened?"

"Were you... playing Dungeon Master in there?" You quirk a brow, gesturing to the robes.

"Huh?" He asks in puzzlement, then looks down. He looks as if he's seeing those robes for the first time and scrambles to get them off, tossing them over his head and onto the floor. "What. The. Hell?"

"What the hell indeed," Allegra retorts.

Jenny has fixed him with a glare, but her expression softens as she sees him strip off the robes in a panic.

"Don't fix it," she says with some resolve. "Just don't."

"Fix what?" Keith mumbles, shrinking back a bit from her.

"You'll know it when you see it," she grumbles, stalking out the front door.

"Uhm we've..." you start.

"Yeah, we've got to go after her," Allegra agrees. "See ya later, Kaptain Keith."

Hurrying after Jenny, you look sidelong to your friend.

"Ally, are we...?"

"...I think we still are, Morgan. Later though, okay?"

"Yeah," you sigh as you emerge out into the night air.

Jenny is standing outside near where you parked the car. She seems to be steadying herself, breathing deeply.

"Okay Jenny," Allegra says as the two of you catch up, "you gonna fill us in on what all that was?"

"This is gonna sound super messed up," she sighs, "but this is what I've been preparing half my life for."

"What do you mean?" You ask.

"Well, you two know me as Jenny Hulsen, right?"

"Yeah?" Allegra says with a confused look.

"Go back a few generations and before they landed at Ellis Island my family's name wasn't Hulsen, it was... Van Helsing."

Keith steps into one of the side rooms after the three of you leave, pulling out his phone.

"Yes sir, it went perfectly. The scion destroyed the decoy. I cut the power at the right moment. She thinks she's done it."

He doesn't know why he's saying this. He hasn't talked to this man before, has he?

"No, I don't think she suspects at all. We can continue operation. The subduction zone is only going to grow. Hail the great beast!"

He hangs up, face still screwed up in confusion. Hail the great beast? What has he gotten himself into?
