Who/What was the receptionist?
A Pixie
What Eliza figured was a pixie floated over to them. She then realized her assumption of their size was slightly off; the girl was short, but was more around 5 feet tall rather than the size of a child like she originally thought. She wore a forest green, one piece dress that flowed out around her thighs. The fabric, if you could call it that, looked like it was made up of different leaves woven together into a sheet. Some of the leaves had changed colors, being placed purposefully to look like the dress was swirling up and around the wearer. The pixie’s hair was ironically in a pixie cut, being blonde with a greenish hue. The butterfly wings that kept her afloat had an intricate black and white design to them. As they fluttered, Eliza could see a small amount of sparking dust coming off. Her resemblance to Tinkerbell was uncanny, almost looking like the actors in Disney world.
“Sorry about the wait.” The pixie said in her best customer service voice, apparently some things never change between the human and demon world. “What can I help you with?” She glanced at Eliza slightly longer than normal, probably due to her human appearance, at least that’s Eliza’s theory anyway.
“We were told the council wanted to talk to us. Well, me, anyway.” Kat said, placing her hand on her chest. “Though might as well tell them about Eliza here.”
“Oh, you’re a newborn. That makes sense.” The moment of clarity popping onto her face. It’s apparent that seeing a human was a rare sight in Home Realm, Eliza starting to get used to the sideways glances at this point. "Do you have an appointment?"
“Um...no. Skye just told us to come in.”
“It’s alright, I was expecting them.” Said an older woman’s voice. All three heads turn to see an elderly reddish-pink demon in the doorway. She had a pair of longer horns, curling back into a spiral above her head. Between the horns was a set of white-grey hair, tied up in a bun on the back of her head. She was wearing a set of long flowing robes, reminding Eliza of what judges are shown to wear. Her tail was thicker, much like Skye's was, and she also had a set of eyes that were pure orange with no pupil in sight. “I can see them right away.” The woman added, heading back through the door. The pixie looked slightly dismayed, but once she refocused on them all semblance of dismay was wiped from her face.
“Well, I see everything’s taken care of. Let me take your names down and I’ll show you to her chambers.” After asking the two some simple questions, she placed down her notebook. “Alright, if you two could follow me.” She floated over the counter, the chest high wall only being a minor inconvenience to her. Opening the door, the two were led down a hallway until they reached the end where a set of double doors sat. She held one open, gesturing to them to walk inside. “Miss Geneviene will see you now.” Bowing her head lightly, she waited until Kat and Eliza were completely inside before closing the door behind them. Sitting at a stone desk was Geneveine, she glanced up at the two and pushed a stack of paper to the side.
“Please, take a seat.” She motioned her hand forward. This confused Eliza for a moment, as in front of the desk was bare. Was she really intending for them to sit on the floor? As if answering her thoughts, Eliza watched parts of the floor rise, the stone forming into a couple of arm chairs. A splash of color swirled on the face of the chair, covering the sitting portion until it formed into a set of cushioned seats. While Eliza was watching stunned at the display, Kat didn’t have such a reaction, sitting down barely after the cushioning formed. Eliza followed suit, finding the chair to be rather comfortable considering it was made out of pure stone.
“Katonia, it’s been a while.” She nodded her head slightly, then looked at Eliza. “And I assume you to be Eliza, no?”
“I...I am.” Eliza stuttered slightly, her nerves starting to get to her. Genoviene was part of the council after all, she was no doubt a powerful woman.
“I’m thankful you two came to me in such haste. I don’t have a lot of time, as much as I would like to catch up.” Kat nodded her head, though the look on her face held comprehension. Eliza wondered if there was some sort of beef between the two.
“Sure, I’m fine with that. What’s it you wanted to talk about?”
“Well, to put it bluntly, your resurgence Katonia. It’s very rare for someone’s aura to disappear only for it to come back years later. Skye had reported your stone’s reactivation to the council, and we grew curious. I must apologize if your forceful teleportation caused any inconvenience.”
“It’s whatever.” Kat snidely remarked. “As for my reappearance, you can thank Eliza for that. I was trapped by the Hunters.”
“Trapped?” Geneviene rubbed her chin in thought. “If that’s true how did they mask your aura from our stones. As far as we know they don’t have that capability.” The Hunters again. Eliza thought to herself. Considering Geneviene's tone, it appears that they are a large threat to everyone, not just against Kat.
“Not exactly.” Kat shuddered very faintly. “I was ambushed and trapped inside of a small box prison. No one was able to open it apparently, or at least I'm assuming. At least not until Eliza here."
"Hmm..." Geneviene stared into the distance, apparently deep in thought. "It sound's like some sort of dimensional prison, it's rather...unsettling that a group like the Hunters have found such a strong magic spell. They must have a specialist amongst them, I will have to inform the rest of the council."
"If I may, but who are the Hunters? I've heard the term a few times now, they seem...dangerous. Not to mention being a specialist, what does it all mean?" Geneviene gave her a soft smile.
"I see Kat here hasn't explain essence types to you yet." She gave a sideways glance towards Kat.
"I was...in the process actually. Before I was rudely kidnapped. I thought I had more time, It's been less than a week and she can already sense auras." Geneviene's gaze then locked onto Eliza, making her squirm a little in her seat. Her expression was one of surprise and intrigue.
"I see, that is unusual. Maybe there's a reason she was able to unlock your prison when others had failed." She paused again, looking Eliza over. "Well, there's no need to complicate our conversation. I'll let you teach her about essence types."
"Yes maam." Kat said, nodding her head once. She then turned to Eliza. "To answer your question on the Hunters, long story short they are a group of humans who know about Mystic kind and have vowed to capture or kill any and all Mystics."
"How do they know? Can't you just erase their memory?"
"They seem to be immune. We don't know much, just that they go through some sort of training that allows them to block out any mental attacks."
"But if they know about Mystics, then why haven't we been found out earlier?"
"They've tried." Geneviene cut in. "Thankfully, as a saving grace, no one believes them. Consider this, before you were turned, would you have believed a random group telling you demons and such exist?" Eliza looked at the ground for a moment, then shook her head. "Speaking of which Eliza, I do have a question. Since you've become a newborn, does anyone else know about your transformation. Any...humans perhaps." She stared Eliza down and the atmosphere of the room changed. Eliza felt an almost ominous pressure push down on her as she felt Geneviene's aura wash over her. Unlike the aura's she felt before, this had a gravitas that she couldn't explain, an intensity that almost pierced her body. Eliza couldn't help but shiver.
Her mind then thinks back to Jason, back to the classroom where she revealed herself to him. She showed him her powers, he at least at some level knows and believes. But, why is she asking? Would they go searching for Jason? Should she protect him? Should she lie? These thoughts bounced around her head as a weightless pressure still bears down on her shoulders. Maybe this is a test, maybe she already knows. Eliza contemplates for a few more moments before coming up with an answer.
What does Eliza answer?
