Defence of the hotel

At dawn the following day Lisa found herself being woken up from her sleep on the hotel's roof by Caitlin.

"We've got company." Caitlin told Lisa.

Wiping the sleep from her eyes, Lisa peered over the makeshift defences. At the far end of main street a large group of 40 men on horseback could be seen silhouetted against the morning sky. Beside Lisa Caitlin readied her winchester while the remaining rooftop fighters were roused from their slumber.

Lisa cast a quick look down the hole in the roof and saw that the other defenders of the hotel were already awake and preparing themselves for the upcoming battle. Lisa then picked up her own winchester and readied it.

At the edge of town the Lynchers began a slow and purposeful advance thru town. Lisa was happy to see that they apparently had no interest in the rest of the town and were focused on the hotel, although she was some what curious to know how the Lynchers had known that they were in the hotel.

As the Lynchers advanced Lisa noticed Caitlin taking aim at the approaching Lynchers.

"Out of range, aren't they?" Lisa asked.

Caitlin reponded by inhaling deeply, exhaled part of it and then held her breath. She then gently squeezed the winchesters trigger. She then resumed breathing and released the trigger.

Lisa watched with amazement as the front Lyncher was shot from the saddle. The remaining Lynchers came to an abrupt stop. Clearly not expecting to take casualties this early in the battle. A number of Lynchers tried to break off the attack, but were quickly coraled by another Lyncher.

Lisa watched the efforts of the Lyncher as he rallied the wavering troops. A second shot from Caitlin put an end to his efforts. Panic now swept thru the Lyncher ranks and many attempted to flee. Lisa watched as a lone rider at the back of the group began gunning down those who were attempting to flee. This action again restored order among the Lynchers.

On the morning air Lisa could hear a Lyncher yelling instructions to the others. These were punctuated by the sound of Caitlins winchester as she dropped 2 more Lynchers.

Suddenly the Lynchers began to charge towards the hotel en mass. Caitlin's deadly accurate rifle fire was joined by the less accurate rifle fire of Lisa and the other rooftop defenders. By the time the Lynchers had reached the hotel, more than a dozen had been killed, most of them by Caitlin.

At the hotel half of the Lynchers began engaging the rooftop defenders while the rest rushed inside.
