His mother and a young woman he didn't recognize

Slowly waking once again from the **** given to keep him calm so he could heal, Andrew felt a hand gripping his own. Reflexively, he squeezed the hand tighter in his and mumble, "Aryca." Still not fully awake he felt the hand gripping his slacken a little. Over the next couple of minutes, he came fully awake, looking to his hand and then following the arm up its' length to see not Aryca but the face of his mother. She didn't look like herself, there were stress lines heavy around her eyes and mouth. There was a sadness in her eyes even though she was attempting to hide it behind her smile. "Mom, what's going on? What's happened to Aryca?"

A weight too heavy to bear seemed to have settled on her shoulders and the sense of sadness seemed to increase, "There's so much to explain and talk about Aurthur. The doctors need to check you out and we'll begin to explain what's been happening." she said as a strange woman reach over her shoulder and took his mother's hand that wasn't in his. Andrew could see that the woman was attractive; but he had no desire to pay attention to any other woman. Andrew just wanted to know where the woman he loved was, what had happened to her. His mother stood up to leave the room with the woman in tow. "I know you want to know what's happened and what's going on but it's not a short explanation. Let the doctors do the necessary tests and care for you then we'll explain everything," his mother stated in that tone she used when you knew there was no way to argue and walked out the door.

What followed was hours of scans, tests, needles and conversations about everything but what he truly wanted to know: What happened to Aryca in the collision? After all of this, when they finally got him back to his room, he was feeling exhausted from everything that had been done but was on edge to finally get answers. His Attending and Surgeon came into the room to explain what was going on with him, "The swelling in the brain seems to have returned to normal but he was going to need several follow-up appointments to monitor this over the next couple months and we'll make further diagnosis from there. The fractured femur is mending well, they will be getting you out of bed and walking as part of your therapy to get you out of the hospital. The breaks in your ribs are healing well, but due to how ribs heal you will be in pain for quite some time. The puncture to your long has closed and seems to be healing on schedule, you will need to be careful not to overexert yourself as breathing with the healing lungs, ribs and soft tissue damage will be painful for some time to come. The casts on your arm and hand will need to say on for a few more weeks at least and we'll be replacing the cast on your leg with a walking cast as part of your physical therapy. You're still going to be in hospital for a bit longer while we monitor the brain and lungs healing and we get you moving around on your own." While they were explaining all this the nurses aided him back into the bed, changed out his IV bags and meds. Once the doctors finished the explanation the attending signaled the nurse, she placed a syringe into his IV and injected the contents.

Aurthur was happy to be done with everything so that he could not get some information about what happened to Aryca, "Doctor can you please tell me what's going on with Aryca?" The doctors had a confused look on their face when he asked this. "Aryca Chase, my fiancé, we got engaged during the fireworks the night of the accident and she was in the car with me." The doctors continued to look confused as Aurthur began to feel warm and drowsy. "Please call my mother back in since she told me everything would be explained...." Aurthur trailed off as his eyes felt heavy. He closed his eyes to relax them, blinked once, twice and on the third blink he was off in dreamland.

When Aurthur awakens the next morning, his mother has returned with the same woman in tow. There were also a couple other doctors and a few more people he'd never seen before with her.
