Chapter 9
by
AnQnomous
Maybe strangling yourself with that tail of yours would be less painful than Ariel's family life.
Biting off your tongue would work better.
I'm not sure how you should react to this.
"Ah, now I understand... wait... no that's not right..." Cilla mutters entirely to herself, rather than anyone else present.
"Don't know... what is... what? Confusing..." You mutter, and to be truthful, I too am confused.
Ariel turns to you both, cheeks blush with embarrassment. "Ok... I guess I'll explain."
He then looks towards his sister, who seems to be about to explode with anticipation. "But no squeals or back-of-the-cart storytelling, ok sis?"
"Yes my lor- I mean, big brother." Gabbie says, looking like a child being told not to eat from the cookie jar; a funny appearance for a woman who appears to be almost as tall as you... now that I think about it, I haven't been explaining height or appearance too well for you, Ego... let me have a look in our old memories for while for more descriptors...
"Urge! I say, handing over thought processing to our deviant scoundrel of worthless desires."
Alright! Finally, I get to do some thinking! Ok, what's happening?
"You nitwit, Ariel is about to explain his own godhood." Says the annoying nerd hanging around in our head.
Ha, got'em.
"Head... hurts... dumb voices..." Whispers Ego, ow dude, my feelings...
Anyway, Bird Boy starts yapping. "So, Cilla, you know about the heroines who took on the old demon king, right? Well, what do you know about their blessings? More exactly, what blessings indicated that they were chosen."
Our local scarred cutie straightens up, looking lively at the chance to really just blab on about random trivia, classic nerds. "The first blessing was announced by the ringing of the bells of each church, temple, sanctuary, or other holy site in the world; all in unison. The heroines were each chosen by one of the gods, who bestowed guardian spirits of vast power to allow them to speak directly with their patron deity, and giving them an immense power; with the powers themselves being secrets known only to the chosen."
"Yeah yeah yeah." Interrupts that damn charmless angel, you'd think he'd let a lady finish first... "But, how many were chosen, and what were their guardians?"
Looking like a certain chicken look'n prick just pissed in her cornflakes, Little Red grumbles, then says "The exact number was unknown, due to being kept secret to confuse the forces of the Dark. Four heroines and their dark ally emerged from the final battle. For your second question, the guardians are the symbols of the patron in question's religion."
"Talk so much... head hurt..." Says our local monster man, whose starting to sound like the only non-dork in this little shack. "Speed up... explaining..."
"Fine! I just wanted Fuzzy over here to have her little 'ah-ha' moment. I am, or was, The Chosen of Yrit. The Martyr God." Explains Ariel, his sister practically dancing her fine rear off in anticipation.
"Stop being horny." Says Loser, I mean Logic, back to 'describe' things again.
Silence, get back to work.
Cilla looks as though she finally removed something horrid from her teeth with her aforementioned 'ah ha!' "So, you are the newest in the line of martyr gods. His boon must have involved his own ****, and yours."
Ariel now looks even more miffed than when he was insulted in town earlier. "Yep, it did. He died to create my guardian, The Lamb. It's power was to bring all other chosen back from anything short of complete atomization of their bodies and obliteration of their souls. In the final fight, I had to use it. Afterwards, I got his gig instead of heading off to the afterlife."
"As one would expect from my dear lord brother, selfless to the end." Says Gabbie, bouncing back and forth on her heels.
"Sis, come on, again with the lord thing... whatever." He then continues, his eyes now conveying a tired need to end the conversation. "So, my blessing meant that I was essentially useless compared to the others for most of our big adventure."
The heavenly sister's face twists to one of horror and concern at his words. "But, Ariel, you saved everyone. It wasn't that bad, I'm sure..."
"Yes it was! Elm got to literally TALK monsters to ****. Alka could throw BUILDINGS like it was nothing! Tomo was practically immortal! You know what I did? Cook! Clean! That's it!" Ariel's eyes began to flicker slightly, gaining a slight golden glow as he shouted.
Cilla interrupts, not caring for our guardian's little freak-out. "What about the heroine mage, Citrinas?"
"Oh, don't even get me STARTED!" The girlish god yelps, the bickering of our guiding light and cyclopean allies' amused look warms you slightly... it reminds you of home.
Love. Home. Crash. Break. Falter. Wither. Die. Birth. Confusion. Love. Home.
Next is the crash, little mouse.
"It reminds you of home... what home? Ego? Where are you going? EGO!?" Says the foolish Logic.
"Logic, what's going on? Where's Ego?!" Says the flaccid Urge.
Come along, little mouse. You feel slithering tendrils in your mind; pulling you along into an all too familiar void...
Why do you resist? No no, let me in. You need me for what's coming. Do you hear it?
Thump... thump... thump... coming towards the temple.
Thump... thump... thump... coming for you.
Is it cheese?
