Chapter 8
by
AnQnomous
She sells sea shells by the sea shore?
No, that's not a good business venture.
You gaze out in awe of the view gracing your sight-jellies, a massive township built within a gorgeous oceanic cavern. The walls of the cavern stretch vastly in odd directions, with buildings strewn about in structurally sound positions; ramps leading to their often awkward entrances. Two kinds of building are visible, ones made of the wood from the tree-lands we just came from, or ones carved into the natural walls themselves. The cavern itself is funnel shaped; wider at the top, thinner at the bottom, with the very bottom of the township housing a well stocked port; itself housing multiple ships.
"Slow... down..." You say to me aloud, unable to keep up with all the fancy words I've been finding in the recesses of our mind.
No, I think I won't slow down.
"You're gonna make us blow a gasket, Logic!" the oaf named Urge insists, as if we can't handle having a slightly better dialect in terms of detailing.
As I was saying, the source of that fine blue light from earlier can be seen at last. A house-sized glowing sapphire heart, impaled on an even larger trident, which sticks up from the center of the waters that house the dock.
"Pretty..." You mutter out, Is that our favorite word now?
"Yep, the Eighth Heart of Khalthosh." Ariel mutters under his breath, somehow not biting his own tongue uttering that unbelievable name. "Impaled by the goddess of life, oceans, healing, and a bunch of other stuff. She's got like... a bazillion temples... and that dark god of madness has like, twelve more hearts. She purified it after ripping it from his chest, and now it produces a radiance that prevents dark forms of divination from detecting the town. Helps keep the place lit too. Torches are pricey."
"Whats... her name?" You ask, two words before a space? Progress.
"She has a bunch of them, but Maiyo is the most popular one, and very confusing when talking about lunch." Explains your guide, looking a bit miffed as the words come out. "I've got like... three... I guess..."
"That brings up a good question, Godling. What are you the god of?" Cilla asks, the look in her eye indicating she wants a little **** embarrassment from our angelic ally.
Prepare for quite the battle of idiocy, Ego. I'll grab the mind popcorn... oh, popcorn is a food by the way.
"Ooh, get me some." Urge says, knowing full well I always share.
"Well, I mean, its not that bad..."
"Say it, godling."
"I don't wanna!"
"Ok, god of nothing it is..."
"YOU LITTLE!"
Our entertainment is interrupted by the loud, adoring... what is it... ah, a "squee" I believe. Yes. The loud, adoring, squee of a tall female figure in what appears to be religious clothing, seemingly handmade, bearing the head of a lion across its front... I'm not telling you what a lion is right now, Ego, pay attention.
"Lord Ariel!" She cries out, tears of joy in her eyes as she quickly rushes over, crushing the poor god to near **** with a bear hug... no I'm not telling you what a bear is either. "How have you been, my patron?"
After his organs are done being reorganized by this stranger, he quickly pulls himself together, patting down his shorts of dust that isn't there. He is **** to stand on his toes as she leans down to hear him whisper something into her ear. She then turns to you and Cilla, and rushes you as if to kill. Before you can react, she is crushing your spine and ribs in another massive showing of affection.
"Gonna... die..." You mutter, your fuzzy friend not looking to be doing any better.
She practically sings in delight as she speaks "Any friend of my lord is a friend of mine! Please come to our temple, I'll make snacks!"
Finally permitted to breath, you and Cilla follow the giantess and the diminutive deity, sharing a knowing look of dread between the two of you. As you walk, you continue to hear those same thumping noises from before, coming from all around. Right now, you don't have time to find the source, and so instead attempt to clear your already quite empty head by playing with your tail during this little trip. Finally, however, you reach your destination after walking past many a shop and quaint homes.
A small hovel near the docks, with a lion's head sloppily painted on the door with white paint.
"Quite the temple, little godling." Says Cilla, giving you a fine example of what 'sarcasm' is.
"Hehehe..." A sheepish laugh is all that's needed to tell me he expected at least something a bit better, don't you agree, Ego?
"Yes." You say aloud, you oaf...
Your gaggle of mistakes enter the shack, which is actually a bit roomier than it looks on the outside; that still isn't much in terms of space. Looking around, you see poorly done paintings that bring back your oldest memories in this mess we've gotten into. The terrible artwork is of the heroines that the twin terrors insisted you hunt down and destroy. You see a girl in a large hat, that Citrinas girl, throwing what looks to be a large meatball... no, a fireball; it must be a fireball. You see an enormous woman, clearly that Alkadabuki woman, with a large stick, bashing in the head of a large monster. You continue to look around at the horrific artwork, seeing each of the five women you've been supposedly tasked with ending, however, you are stumped by a sixth character in these awful reenactments. A girlish figure, with green ponytails, carrying a large pack on their back.
"Nice work on the temple, Gabbie." Says the images inspiration, our goof of a guardian; his voice is genuine in this exchange, more so than it has ever been when speaking to us or Cilla...
"Of course, Lord Ariel. I wished only to convey your ascent to the best of my abilities." Gabbie bows her head, removing the habit that covers her head, allowing familiar short green hair to flow freely.
"Come on little sis, you don't have to keep calling me lord. Especially in front of our guests, it's getting kinda weird."
Maybe strangling yourself with that tail of yours would be less painful than Ariel's family life.
